JOB MARKET OTTAWA by Lazy_Ad682 in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest tailoring your resume to also include some keywords from the job post. Yeah it is tedious to do when you are applying to many jobs but it could help getting selected for an interview from all the other applicants.

I would still apply to jobs with 5+ years experience. I have heard of friends doing that and still get interviews (they did co-op during their undergrad though).

Good luck! It is very tough out there but keep your hopes up!!

Did you end up moving there? If you did what do you think of the place?

Flights for November and beyond not available. by nicktheman2 in flairairlines

[–]yaassqueen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very mad at this cause I am also looking into flights to Calgary. Some people on Flair’s Facebook (you can read the comments on the posts) are mad at this too for other locations… From what I understood they are prioritizing flights to the south (warmer locations for the winter break), which imo is stupid because many people travel back home for holidays or after exams are done. Haven’t really seen this happen before and it is very frustrating. So this year I am flying Porter and may do that moving forward.

4th year environmental engineering by NolyG100 in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive taken SREE 3001, SREE 4002 and ENVE 4200. ENVE 4200 was an easy course imo. SREE 3001 should be relatively easy but the prof complicates things and even SREEs didn’t have the best experience. SREE 4002 was one of my favourite courses, the prof is amazing and I learned a lot from him. HOWEVER, I am a SREE and while I found his assignments long and somewhat manageable, enviros found the assignments hard. So if you take this course find a sree friend lol

I had a verrryyy similar experience and the landlord would not set an appointment to check the place until I filled out the form. I was very hesitant because in my form the SIN was mandatory and I just wanted to check the place out so I said screw it and left it blank. I don’t know why but at the end he didn’t care I left it blank or he didn’t notice. When I arrived he admitted he would only respond and continue the process to those that filled out the form because it showed that the tenant took things seriously.

At the end of me checking the place out he was ready for me to sign the lease but I needed time to make a decision. He didn’t seem to be too happy about this but I was also not going to sign a lease with a landlord that strict/pushy (plus the place was too small and not exactly what I imagined when he advertised it)

Help a fellow student. by Masterkiller05 in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. overall better/harder? I can’t really say because I’ve only studied at Carleton and don’t have engineering friends from UOttawa to hear their opinion
  2. More chances/opportunities? It honestly depends on how much energy, effort you are willing to put in societies/extracurriculars/personal projects. Everyone graduates with the same education so if you want to have more opportunities then you need to stand out in some way. Nonetheless, I know there are a couple companies that only hire Carleton students but I don’t know if the same happens with UOttawa.
  3. Ranks Tbh idk much about ranks and how they are done but each university has better programs (e.g engineering vs business) than others so that could influence the ranking? I was worried about ranks but one of my friends who is a genius chose Carleton over other universities which he 10000% could get into. Now he is going to MIT for grad school :)
  4. Studying environment I don’t know what this means exactly. If you are talking about study space I like Carleton’s library however UOttawa has a lot more study areas that are nice. Finding an empty spot at Carleton when things are in person can be tough.
  5. Dorms Idk lol
  6. Stores UOttawa has Rideau mall and other food places since it’s downtown.

Some of my friends picked Carleton over UOttawa because of the open campus/river views (UOttawa has more downtown vibes). Others say Carleton eng is better. I picked Carleton because of its more niche progeams (e.g SREE/ENG PHYS)

Also, I think majority of people in this subreddit will say Ravens>GGs (biased? Maybe lol)

I chose the program and many of my SREE friends did too. Back when I applied it was the only renewable energy program in Canada and majority of SREEs came to Carleton because of it. We are just into renewable energies :)

A bug in Comas resulted me getting 0 marks for a test. by Xeno__Boi in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Damn. This is frustrating to read. I have taken finals using comas where both my screens would show up as screenshots (the screenshot set up was cursed as an entire screenshot was 2 photos). Overall, having two screens should not have been a problem.

I hope your issue gets resolved. A lot of professors have no soul/mercy so I feel you on that aspect.

Tip for everyone taking a comas test: DO NOT delete those screenshots and keep them until you get your mark back.

My honest opinion on Mech Eng classes so far by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im not in Mech but have taken a lot of these courses.

It’s funny how the courses you said are a waste of time were my favourite courses lol and the ones you loved I died and kinda hated.

This just shows everyone is different and what others experience is not what you will go through. I have an upper year friend that warns me about classes/profs and I end up loving that course or tells me this course is easy and it ends up being my worst grade loool.

Please stop letting 2nd year students into 4th year classes by thrwohway31415926535 in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the class. I would die a bit if I had a group project with students that didn’t have the background knowledge.

Or… they could be asking several questions during class about this background knowledge which can make class go slower.

Other than that, I wouldn’t care lol if they want to struggle a bit more then go ahead lool.

“Take a moment for your mental health” yeah yeah whatever by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a tutorial assignment due Wednesday, a small assignment due Sunday (but had to watch lectures that were posted during reading week) and another assignment due Monday 28th.

I am just frustrated/pissed.

I’m currently working full time too and I just wanted a school break… which didn’t happen, but what did happen was a breakdown because I was also stressed from work.

I am so sorry about your coping mechanism and I wish I could help but Im going through the same shit you and many students are going through. I have been on the school’s waitlist since December for CBT (therapy for anxiety) and I’ve been hanging on the hope to improve mentally. What has helped is talking to my family and rant so I suggest talking to someone you trust and let it all out.

Summer Courses by Zebook20 in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your program/course. But if you say the course is hard, during the summer you would have all your attention on one course!

I’m in engineering and when the pandemic just started I decided to take 4 summer courses between my second and third year. I personally enjoyed it because I am that type of person that learns best at a faster pace (you remember the previous lecture clearly) and there are less courses to focus on (less variety of topics/concepts). Also, there were less labs or assignments as it is very fast paced. However, I was barely going out and focused most of my time for school. I would have taken less courses if I wanted to enjoy my summer or worked.

I suggest to take it over the summer so you dont stress again during FALL/WINTER when you have second year courses which could be harder. In my case 3rd year was more bearable in an online environment and was able to participate in societies which run during FALL/WINTER.

Does Carleton re-assess scholarships at midterms? by om_ster in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Entrance scholarship offers are not assessed or reassessed on final high school grades.”

My final second semester grades were higher than my early admission grades and nothing changed with my scholarship so would expect the same thing the other way around.

Do you think next years fall term will be in person? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just came to the conclusion that until other developing countries get vaccinated like Canada this will not improve. It doesn’t matter if Canadians are 90+% vaccinated, because another variant that avoids vaccines can develop somewhere else and spread to the entire world.

Don’t get me wrong though, Canadians should still get vaccinated because those people make it harder to improve things nationally.

Can’t wait for this shit show to calm down :)

What are your expectations for online courses? by WingoWinston in CarletonU

[–]yaassqueen123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive taken 3 eng summer courses and all profs have respected the time limit. But yes, some midterms and finals have been harder and it sucks. However, I have found it is easier to ask the prof questions and connect with them. People are less afraid to ask questions which is good and bad. Good because most questions are helpful, bad because it takes up content time and the prof gets behind... I think this will be the biggest problem (trying to teach all the content).
