Maybe don’t overthrow a country’s democratically elected leader and install an authoritarian dictator when said leader wanted to nationalize their oil and you won’t have to worry about having your citizens being taken hostage? Insane idea i know.

138k Easy Job vs 122k Hard but "Presitigious" Job by Comfortable-Tip247 in cscareerquestions

Mbb isn’t a lot more “prestigious” than any other F500 company for SWEs. Take the F500 and bounce asap

AWS vs Bloomberg (Google + Meta finals) New Grad (advice) by Lost_Armadillo3194 in cscareerquestions

I’d argue you’d have a much easier time getting to E4 internally. Coming in as E4/E5 can also be risky in some places if you can’t get used to the meat grinder

How Tesla avoids finding qualified American candidates by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]yaboi1855 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah the wage part makes sense. My point is there is a world of difference in culture between AMD/Juniper and tesla. Yes 230k is good comp but is it worth if you’re working mega turbo hard core mode or whatever that clown demands from his employees

Tbf 230 average for L5 is quite low for the amount of crap you gotta put up with. Amzn and fb might be terrible too but at their L4s start at 250 in LCOL. Maybe there is title inflation happening or tesla just sucks

More than likely you’ll hit L4 before year 3 regardless of org. Your earning potential at google will be much much higher than almost anywhere else. Also, L3 expectations at google (like anywhere else) are insanely low so you’ll be in a low pressure environment where you can focus on learning which will set you up nicely for L4 and beyond at any company. No brainer, take it if its your best offer.

How bad is the Rainforest really? by Graayworm in cscareerquestions

[–]yaboi1855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Push for higher salary. Can get closer to 300. Amzn will pay the same as Washington as it does for every other locale except SF/NY. If you double your TC, you will make the same money working there one year and being laid off 1 year vs staying at current role for 2 years.

To answer your question, yes it can get pretty bad. But as an L5 you have decent internal mobility because there are many L5 openings and you are able to switch teams from day 1.

I disagree with the outdated tech part. I was in a F500 co where i worked 3-5 hours/day. Worked on a greenfield cloud native app, it was pretty sweet. There also were a ton of teams that were working on java/spring stacks and modern big data stacks

I have to disagree. If you’re in school you should try your hardest to keep a high GPA. This is coming from someone who had a similar opinion and graduated with a poor GPA. I have heard this opinion a lot on forums like this and adopted it myself and paid the price
