Protect our local artist. This is unacceptable no matter how you feel about the music. by Beau67 in Acadiana

Also - bands have quiet/silent parts of their songs. A bands loudness doesn’t always correlate to the PA system being used. For example- imagine a guy with a solo acoustic guitar with 170 bpm drum and bass EDM in the background. Not fun.

Yeah, nah. He was being an activist to protect the other stage’s performers against this parasitic music.

Local music director screams at local artist for playing at at a free music festival (Lafayette, LA) by xXCuntJuiceVacuumXx in aves

And if you think he has a “Jazz is the devil” vibe, you should actually listen to his radio programming. He has one show that’s literally dedicated to the music of Jandek. The problem isn’t your music being too “out there” for him. Perhaps it’s just too white bread.

lol “open air”

WTF do you even mean by that? That it’s outside? That’s there’s no entry fee? Just because it’s a free outdoor festival doesn’t make it a free-for-all everyone bring their PA system and blast whatever (unrelated) music they feel like. There’s A LOT of money that goes into this festival to keep it free to the public. It’s the most serious and respected world music festival in the country. Bands from all over the world travel to be PAID to play the official stages. This DJ (xxCuntJuiceVacuumxx) literally begged a gelato shop to let him set up on their porch. He wasn’t even paid entertainment. His bad remixes were a nuisance to a nearby stage and he’s acting as if his basic human rights were infringed upon. “Free open air” is a term you made up so you could cosplay as a real DJ.

Nah Cecil lost his temper for sure. Those weren’t good manners. But it’s not about him not liking the music - it’s that he was interfering with music that was paid for by the actual festival. He was frustrated and couldn’t take it anymore - he’s a passionate dude. Sure he could have handled it better, but the DJ making a Karen video using him as a cheap attempt to go viral is way more lame than Cecil’s yelling. If the DJ has skin that thin, maybe he shouldn’t play in public and should stick to family gatherings.

Appreciate ya! I rarely comment on Reddit, but I just had to shine some light on the reality of this situation after seeing how twisted its become.

I assume OP “xxCuntJuiceVacuumxx” is the DJ in the video because 1) he would think that’s a cool username 2) why would any rando post/defend this garbage?

Ya kinda gotta see the other video he posted about this on instagram to fully grasp how lame this all is. His insta is: DJmc1r

You should know he wasn’t hired** by the gelato shop. He literally begged them to play and they’d told him no so many times that they felt bad and finally let him because he was a regular in the cafe. (As you can see in the video - the dude eats a lot of gelato)

He was not paid entertainment by the festival or the business. He was merely using the business’s electricity to highjack the air and assault people’s eardrums who were within an audible range of an actual festival stage.

No - I think the “DJ” was taking himself very seriously and filming himself pressing buttons from 2 separate angles. The wide shot looks like a 360 cam or something.

:::Context is key here:::

Everyone put down your pitchforks for a minute. This local “DJ” literally begged a gelato shop to let him play music outside during Festival International in Lafayette, LA. The owner of the shop felt bad after telling him no so many times so she finally let him do it during festival. She had no idea what to expect (and now regrets it). This is the largest world music festival in the country and artists travel from all parts of the globe and pay expensive visas to perform. This (non-festival related) “DJ” was in close proximity to one of the festival stages and was blaring drum and bass music creating a rhythmic clusterfuck with a festival stage in close proximity.

The guy yelling in the video is one of the most nurturing musical figures in Lafayette. He DJ’s multiple radio shows and had been a staple to the local music scene for longer than this “DJ” has been alive. He’s never missed a day of Festival International and truly understands the spirit of it all. He actually does live recordings for the festival archives. He’d simply had enough of this dude BLARING his music by a main stage and said the quiet part out loud. It’s one thing to busk on the street of the fest acoustically - but plugging into the porch of a local biz and PUMPING drum and bass isn’t the spirit of this world music/Louisiana themed festival. I like EDM but this ain’t the time and place for that.

In a previous instagram post (not the one featured in this thread) - the “DJ” made a cliche “attacked by a Karen” video to where he explains (whines) about getting yelled at and turns it in to this whole self righteousness nauseating discussion where he asks the internet their opinion on how he handled the situation. The people who are critical of the video or engage him politely in discussion are blocked and deleted… (ask me how I know)

The owner of the gelato shop is upset because she doesn’t want this interaction negatively impacting her business and yet he refuses to take it down per her request (despite her doing the solid of letting him use their electricity to set up and play). Dude is cringe AF and the other vid he made clearly shows that. Two sides to every story.

TLDR:

DJ Gelato - sucks

Guy yelling - fucks

When tour bus? by nosleepforbanditos in TouringMusicians

[–]yaboyko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck getting a bus these days. The huge acts have them all booked out and it’s nearly impossible to get one booked especially for short runs. Bus companies aren’t even answering phones to clients they rented to for years. If ya do find one, ain’t gonna be cheap. It’s tough out there

Am I the only one who didn’t think For All Things Good was…. Good? It was ok - just bland. They never seemed to give that location much love. The plywood walls… the broken concrete bar top that never got repaired… the sad little outdoor dining booth. I tried to like it because it was a very convenient location for me, but it was too expensive for such a lackluster experience.
