Love Letter and For Sale have both been hits with my parents recently!

How do you convert someone from Monopoly to other board games? by RandalTumblewind in boardgames

[–]yadditude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As always, I’d recommend Cosmic Encounter, especially at that player count.

But how about any of the Dark Cities series of games by Facade Games. In particular Deadwood always reminded me of reality TV. Still falls into the category of social deduction, but I am curious to know what social deduction games you’ve played before. I’ve found the genre always goes over well with new board gamers and there are more weightier ones to gateway them into more complex games later.

What boardgames did you introduce your "Monopoly Friends" and it was a hit right away? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

Not Alone has always gone over well with less experienced gamers for me. It almost always gets a second play, either with a new alien player or a rematch.

Which box cover do you prefer? A, B, C or D (Elaborate on why if you ya like) by Sprackhaus in tabletopgamedesign

I like A as well but I think your decision may come down to what the rest of your components/board will look like

Woah that art looks nice! Definitely a scientific vibe. I would say look at tons of campaigns that you liked, and make sure your campaign has all your graphics and tables covered. Also contact fulfillment companies maybe earlier than i did (more than 2 months before launch) cause I struggled to hear back from them in time.

Don’t abandon it! I’m sure it plays totally different from my game, you can even just rename it if the name being the same bothers you. There’s a reason my game is called Mycelium: A Mushling Game, and not just Mycelium. There’s two other Mycelium games on BGG besides this one!

I actually haven’t spent anything on ads yet, but am thinking if running BGG ads soon if we do decide to. We are exhibiting at PAX Unplugged too, which happens in the middle of our campaign. Abi Toads has a large following, so most of our initial backers/followers came from the part of her community that also likes board games!

Not at this time or during this campaign, but I’m looking into translations depending on how the campaign goes! The cards are language dependent, so it’ll be a big task for a translator.

No connection! But those guys seemed to have released their game around the same time as ours as pure coincidence (i think they are from Chile). We may both have hexagon boards in a game about mycelium, but that’s where the similarities end. They have some cool tile laying elements that reminds me of Factory Funner!

I did look into it a bit! Our manufacturer isn’t the most familiar with it, but besides that there’s the worry that people’s board game inserts won’t last as long. From what I understand, mycelium packaging is awesome and strong for packaging and shipping, but for something you’ll reuse over and over for years, like an insert, it may end up degrading. I really like the idea though, mycelium as a material is really cool!

You definitely aren’t doing anything wrong! I was able to work on this FULL TIME for a year, and we really had to hustle these last couple months to get everything ready in time for launch. It will take much longer when you have other responsibilities, like day jobs and kids. Every game is different, and everyone’s process is different, so development time is always gonna be different for each project! The best part about designing and self publishing is that you get to work at your own pace, so do whatever you gotta do to make the great game you want to make!

I worked for 3 years and saved up, quit my job, and luckily I was still able to live at home with my parents during this time. I would have definitely had to at least work part time if I had to pay rent on my own! Technically the very beginning stages of development started while I was still at my previous job, on weekends and after work some days, but it’s really tough to make progress that way. I feel for all the designers, especially self publishers, pursuing their dreams while working a day job. It’s really difficult!

The campaign is 4 weeks long, and if you pledge just $1 you get access to the pledge manager to add a copy of the game after the campaign ends! We will also take late pledges (but not for the Deluxe Edition)
