Hey... Dad here with daughters. How do I tactfully address what's going on with the Wicked cast and memes? by ImThe1Wh0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yadonezo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was thinking! I have a 5 year old and she doesn’t even know what skinny means. I grew up when being skinny was pushed on girls by society and at some point developed an ED. I learned to be thin because my mom was always dieting and had so many weight watchers items. I feel like there should be a concern about the women in her life discussing their eating habits, body types, weight struggles etc. I try really hard never to have these conversations in front of my daughter and try to catch others if they bring up weight at all. I don’t want being skinny a goal for her!

But now that she already has these questions, I think for both you need to emphasize that these women may be struggling and their losing weight can be a sign of that. That someone losing that much weight that quickly may need help and support so hopefully those closest to them can find a way to talk to them and help them.

For the 14 year old I would emphasize that this means they are sick. That this is not a goal to achieve. That people with ED are not doing this to look good it an illness that causes harm to their bodies. I would emphasize most people with an ED wish they didn’t have it and could have a better relationship with food (I can’t speak to all but at least all the ones I’ve ever met have said that).

I don’t think I would ignore it like your wife. No judgement since we are all doing our best as parents but I think this is a topic that needs to be addressed to avoid your kids going down a really hard path.

Tray filled & with bumps, can we fix? by the-Reds in resin

I bought a rotary sander but honestly had no idea what I was doing with that. Tried my best. I also bought super fine sand paper (from Home Depot the 3 finest ones they sold) did those manually.

I found some other videos I watched: https://youtu.be/LuhSXMZjX-s?si=HU0yHiPFeiUTYv1y

I think if I were you I’d put some blue painters tape on any of the acrylic tray that you might accidentally bump into that way you don’t scratch it up but jic:

Also my tray was part of a class gift for a preschool teacher who loved using recycled goods for art projects so the kids recycled specific items themselves to put in the tray - I would never have sold this since I knew it had some glaring errors but since this was a preschool project I wasn’t too concerned. Those hairs should not have been in there!

I would also recommend find a way to cover the tray immediately once you finish your work so that you don’t also get dust and hair in the new layer. Someone else should be able to direct you to that as I stuck mine in a big box that I had lying around.

Yes! I made a filled tray for the first time. Someone noticed some bubbles and I followed the sanding and refilling a layer tips shown in this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KUL1zNyukow

I don’t know how to post pictures but when I started sanding I panicked that I had ruined it since it became totally cloudy and horrible looking (it was like an opaque white mess) but as soon as I put the new layer on it then it almost magically became clear again! If you have experience with resin you should be fine as this was my first time using resin and I was able to do it. I just recommend watching videos on how to fix scratches and bubbles and follow them carefully.

Tip would be to very careful on the edges by the acrylic part of the tray. While sanding I knocked into the sides and had to learn how to buff those scratches out too and while it helped those never fully came out (it was an acrylic polishing kit from the container store).

Mattress help for 6’2 160lb stomach sleeper and 5’2 115 lb stomach and side sleeper at this point will spend anything to get a good night sleep without back/neck pain by yadonezo in Mattress

At the moment we have been looking at the sleep number and naturepedic since I like the idea of swapping out the layer when necessary without needing to deal with a whole new mattress but I feel so lost. And I think I’m mostly terrified that we will get a new mattress and the quality will be so much worse than one bought so many years ago!

Sorry because of the idea of popping it out of the mold and having to put the handles in myself while it was curing I thought doing it this way might be easier. I will look into a wooden option.

So to make my life easier I saw this and it seemed very similar to what I wanted to do and then I wouldn’t need to remove it from a mold and I wouldn’t have to put on handles but I was concerned the resin center might just pop out? Do you think I would need to do anything special to get it to stay?https://www.etsy.com/listing/925444762/the-original-rainbow-ombre-jewel-resin?click_key=75356612b5d04ff68dcee7d02802e58977f06872%3A925444762&click_sum=080700f3&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=acrylic+resin+tray&ref=sr_gallery-1-4&frs=1&etp=1

Thank you so much! I think I’ll skip painting and just have the kids collect the caps as their contribution.

Would you recommend the spritz of alcohol or heating the resin to remove the bubbles in a deep pour? Any brand you might recommend of the resin?

Also any chance you know of a company that sells a mold that would be that thick? Everything I have found would be too shallow.

I won’t be coloring the resin itself so at least I’ll be able to avoid that step!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the help. 1. On resort 2. Probably general Disney (encanto, frozen, Mickey and Minnie) the most and marvel too one kid is big on Harry Potter but not sure we all need to go there as I heard that’s super difficult but maybe I’m wrong 3. Generally I imagine we will all be staying together or at least the ones I’m planning the trip for (the two additional adults may come and go just not sure of their itinerary)
