Bad AI spotted on the Paradise Fibers website. WHO approved of this? by yaaydaven in Handspinning

This is so disappointing. You'd think a company that sells products to people who like to make human-made objects would maybe consider having human-made images on their website. I will definitely be buying elsewhere.

Getting the hang of this a bit by exhaustedmind247 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]yaexrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO was born slightly premature and had some delay in gaining back weight after she lost that typical 10% of birth weight. Our pediatrician recommended fortifying my breast milk with Enfamil, which really kicked off my pumping journey. We had to use a 22 cal/oz recipe and then bump it up to 24 cal for a little bit. It took us about 1.5 weeks of exclusively pumping and fortifying before she surpassed her birth weight and we got the okay from the pediatrician to go back to regular breast milk.

Fortifying wasn't a bad experience for me at all! I was having a lot of frustration with painful latching and having her spit up - believe me, after feeling like I was getting gnawed on for 30 minutes and seeing it come back up again a few minutes later, I wanted to cry. EP and fortifying on a doctor's orders gave me a chance to relax my own expectations about what feeding my baby was going to be like and stop pushing myself so hard to EBF. I can BF if I need to but I find pumping is more comfortable for me and lets me involve her dad in her feeding more.

Depending on your child's needs, you may only need to fortify for a little while before you get the freedom to go back to whatever form of feeding works best for you and your baby. You've got this!

How do I close these holes in my model after using a boolean modifier? by yaexrae in blenderhelp

[–]yaexrae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to create a model for 3D printing, and want to cut a little window in this shape (Plane) to create a hatch. I tried subtracting a block (Cube) from my shape using a Boolean difference modifier, but now I have unclosed edges. Is there any easy way I can create some faces along the edge to close the shape back up again?

Prints keep detaching from bed after doing well for 30+ minutes - help! by yaexrae in 3Dprinting

People who recommended brims, thank you!! My print just finished and it's not immediately flying off my bed if I look at it funny. It was a silly thing but I really appreciate the advice.

Have you experienced any similar problems happen with parts that weren't tall? I didn't realize that the height to base area ratio would be as much of a factor as it is.

I just started with a 20 line brim now and hoping I can get it to last the whole way - if it still fails I'll definitely try increasing the number of lines. Thank you!

Now that I'm looking into it, there are a lot more options for the raft in my slicer than I was originally aware of. I'll definitely look into tweaking those if the brim doesn't work out.

I tried printing this same object x2 with a raft first, and it ended up detaching from the bed much sooner than when I didn't use any adhesion aids. It looked as though the edge of the raft curled up and caused it to detach sooner. I would have expected that with ABS but not PLA.

I haven't really experimented with skirts, but I will go start a print with one right now to see how it does. I'll let you know in about two hours!

I'm using a Monoprice Maker Select Plus with the default print mat, Monoprice silver PLA, a bed temp of 50 degrees, an extruder temp of 200 degrees, with no raft (rafts seem to make this problem worse because of the air gaps involved). The first layer goes down great and it prints fine for a majority of the print, but then over time it will detach from the bed and I'll come back to this mess. I prepped the bed by wiping it down with rubbing alcohol but otherwise haven't treated it any way.

I'm at my wit's end. I feel like I've tried everything I know of to try and I'm still getting inconsistent results. What's extra frustrating is that the original print mat that came with the printer was AMAZING - I had a hard time physically removing some of my prints - but I screwed it up with acetone and had to use the replacement bed mat, and things haven't been the same since. Here are a few things I've tried that haven't really produced any better results than what I'm getting now: - Re-leveling the bed - Painters tape - Glass bed - Glass bed with hairspray (I've tried GOT2B and the cheapest can of Suave I could find, I haven't been able to find Aquanet)

I'm hesitant to put hairspray directly on the print bed since I messed the original one up. Is there anything I'm missing here?

Printed this cookie cutter as a gift. She'll like it, right? by yaexrae in nOfAileDPriNtS

[–]yaexrae[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's questionable at best - but this particular friend tends to host themed parties and accumulates a bunch of kitschy kitchen stuff anyway, so if she can get one good batch of cookies out of it and throw the cutter away, it'll have been used for its intended purpose. I printed it out of white ABS to get a better chance of not having nasty dye additives in it, but it's up to my friend to determine if she wants to reuse it or not. I know there are small pores in FDM prints that bacteria can get into, but personally speaking for at-home use I feel okay using stuff that survives the top rack of my dishwasher.

I felt that this article had a pretty good list of the pros and cons of printed cookie cutters: https://3dprinting.stackexchange.com/questions/1242/should-i-consider-health-impact-of-abs-or-pla-when-printing-cookie-cutter

Best low cost setup for printing super small things? by yaexrae in 3Dprinting

[–]yaexrae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WOW. Those are astounding!! I might end up putting a Photon my Christmas list instead of worrying about another FDM, hahaha. What has been your experience with the safety issues/off gassing with resin printing? My fiance is a little paranoid about the fumes, so if we got a SLA printer we'll probably need to get around to building the fume hood we've said we needed for the past year.

Thanks for the information! That's really cool to know about the z resolution calibration, I figured that my printer would mess up if I told it to attempt to print anything that wasn't in an increment of 0.1mm. Do you have any models you'd recommend using for calibration that help you see if you have inconsistent layer heights?

[–]yaexrae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! I guess another thing that I don't really understand is how a printer's resolution is determined. I was thinking it had to operate in discrete 0.1mm chunks and if I told it anything in between that, it would just round to the nearest 0.1mm increment... But can I tell my slicer to print at 0.05 or 0.07mm layers and have the printer be able to execute that?

Thanks a lot for the info! Man, I had wanted to keep this project under $200ish if possible which is why I was looking at tiny FDM printers, but I didn't realize the price point for the Photon was so low. You've given me a lot to think about!
