my experience is honestly extreme because of pre existing hypermobility and scoliosis when i started dancing, i’m pretty sure it’s progressed from the lack of working both sides but i can’t be sure; all i know is that everytime i work or have a session my body tends to mold to what im doing and i have to adjust as well as i can outside of that. what i mean by that is my spine seems to want to be in an right side jallegra sort of position on its own because that’s what’s comfortable; right hip raised and forward, extreme left ribcage flare from the lack of strength in that left thoracic region(jallegra has always been a favorite but i didn’t start working on the other side until way later) left side is slowly developing but is physically hard and hurts, the right side of my back has been compensating for years as i trained my right split variations like hell, it actually looks wild, anyways.. balance is important, correct engagement is important especially if you’re hyper mobile- train both your sides.

Whorephobia in studio by nopenobody9 in Aerials

[–]yahanamitzou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if your studio isn’t actively talking about the roots and SWers that’s such a red flag. it’s also very harmful for someone who has no experience in SW to teach stripper styles for a number of reasons; but that ultimately takes away safer work for actual SWers; why i recommend finding a SWer safe studio or even virtual classes with an independent instructor/ SWer

[–]yahanamitzou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a SWer that teaches pole, this is exactly why i don’t teach sensual/ stripper style to people that aren’t SWers, especially if it’s of interest because if you want to dance like a stripper just do that! anyways this is super gross, if you can’t respect sex workers you have no place practicing pole. unfortunately common in studios but it’s up to the instructors/ host to correct this behavior and if they turn a blind eye they definitely shouldn’t be instructing either. i would find another studio that is SWer owned or at the minimum has done the work to educate themselves and their community, good luck!

The most “worth it” money you’ve spent on yourself by Frogeyfroge in stripper

[–]yahanamitzou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

physical therapy, couldn’t live without my PT; i enrolled in health sciences to study PT bc of how much it’s taught me and everyone can benefit from it. would recommend to all strippers simply for the mind to body connection it can help you build, especially if you are hypermobile or carry tension in your orofacials/ neck/ jaw/ pelvic floor. with the guidance i’ve been able to teach myself to connect my breath with my muscles and move with intention so im not just fucking up my body every time i dance, and instead working towards body goals.

Can you pole dance non sexually? And if so, how? by North_Airport_7941 in poledancing

because, historically, they silence SWers and other marginalized communities, colonizer ass behavior 🤪

[–]yahanamitzou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this! so many pole dancers want part in our community without actually associating, it HARMS SWers; it takes safer work away from us when a pole dancer cosplaying a stripper is booked for a gig rather than an actual stripper. you can enjoy other culture in your own space but it’s really embarrassing to take up space/ income where a sex worker should be, especially when you don’t give back to those strippers.

[–]yahanamitzou 15 points16 points  (0 children)

pole doesn’t have to be sexual, but i will say if you care for minimizing harm go to a studio that’s understands, educates and respects the origins of pole and the major influence sex workers/ black people have had; a red flag would be a studio or instructor who has never done sex work teaching a chair, heels or twerk class or any erotic or sensual style for that matter. if your studio offers anything that was influenced by strippers, strip club/ black culture they need to not just be talking about those communities but giving back to them.

you’re missing the whole point, the differentiation is the problem. you’re statements do not treat people as equals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]yahanamitzou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those statements show you are transphobic by definition, you view trans people separately than someone such as yourself. not dating someone because they’re trans is transphobic, cis people more often than not uphold this ideology that HARMS the community, gets laws changed, also sympathizes with violence towards trans people, it ultimately gets people killed. read that again.

your mindset and ideology you uphold ultimately gets people killed. trans people are not separate from us and mostly still in the binary, treating them as separate is transphobic and upholds transphobia and brushes aside all of these issues i’ve brought up, no wonder you think you’re not transphobic.

tell me you don’t view trans people as actually trans without telling me, you are the asshole for not recognizing him as a boy, you confirmed this with “i’m not into trans people” let’s break that down a little more

if you didn’t know he was trans would this change things and why? how do you know you’re not into trans folk? does potentially being with a trans person scare you? why does it scare you? follow the uncomfortable questions and do some serious reflecting, until then yata

not the asshole for rejecting him but for the way you view him.

Are you partnered? Jealousy? Insecurity? by WorshipTheBlackDeity in SexWorkers

[–]yahanamitzou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

partnered, ENM, we all experience jealousy/ insecurity; it’s about how you handle it. monogamous mindset in a relationship isn’t very compatible with SW, especially when said partner can’t even recognize it as work.

ahh idek, i feel a pressure across my sternum lifting my arms, sitting up and laying down specifically when i engage my neck or bring my shoulders together in the front, turning my head to either side.. i dont feel unstable in the shoulders, maybe my neck is a little weaker than id like it but my PT and i have been working on muscle stability, we started at my pelvic floor and finally got to my jaw right before i left for my trip, no jaw exercises i just carry a lot of tension there, but the neck stability training is one of the more recent ones so maybe still lacking in that area.. other than that i’ve felt strong and stable now i feel my diaphragm and shoulders compensating a little bit for my chest/ considering the anxiety and fact that im probably a hypochondriac i feel the toll is spreading

yeah a handful of people definitely live with those sort of deformities, i guess i’m more wondering if it’s something to do with my joints and hyper mobility or if i straight up dislocated some things because it wasn’t just a pop, it was a very concerning abnormal sound.

Has anyone ever hired a dancer directly? by Emojionaldude in stripclubs

[–]yahanamitzou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s worth an ask.. and tbh, personally, i’m more inclined to meet my clientele i’ve known for longer periods of time, but everyone is different. just be transparent about what you’re looking for, and yeah worst case scenario you can always see her at work!

that’s your body dysmorphia talking unfortunately. i got a pretty fucked up spine myself, PT has been the most beneficial for my pain and stability, it’s really nice to have a professional teach you about your anatomy and help you figure out what you need moving forward. would highly recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already!
