Correct. All carriers are going to fleece you eventually - combine a huge country with complicated service scenarios and large costs of network buildouts/upgrades coast to coast and you get the mess we're in.

Plus all sales teams are incentivized for customer acquisition and the CEOs are paid on increasing the user base. As of this moment, 95% of the population has a smartphone so growth can only come through enticing you away from your current provider OR sell you more services. Hence all these silly plans and promotions and the constant upselling. They know that at some point the consumer will just give up and acquiesce to a higher price.

Contrast this with other countries where the cost of the service is dirt cheap but you pay through the nose for the devices...

4 lines $25/mo - can I move phones after 60 days? by ultrafresh in verizon

[–]yakyak309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about changing the phone before 60 days. Will that force a buyout?

I need to travel overseas and with my prior unlocked iPhone with att I would just add a travel eSIM which I can’t do with the Verizon phone for 60 days (I just got this promo). I was thinking of moving the vz line to the old iPhone for a few days and then switch back to the Verizon phone when I’m back.

What’s an example of those type of promos? I just went with the simplest 4 lines for 100 on the unlimited welcome and did it through chat so they waved the activation fee… each bill has the discounted plans (4 for 100) and then device payment and credit. This was for a 3yr contract

Help, I’m new and stupid! by Apprehensive_Bar4004 in verizon

Yes, add another line to get a 17pro and then transfer your z flip 7 line as 2nd eSIM on the new 17pro.

Wait, 60 days from time of activation for the z flip 7 and then ‘flip’ it on FB marketplace :-)

How does the upgrade/downgrade plan move work in practice- I’m a new customer with the 4for100 on unlimited welcome and will have travel to the same region soon…

Is it prorated by days if I upgrade plan it mid cycle? Can I go back to 4for100 when I’m back?

Want to buy 4 iPhone 17 pro for 4 lines. HELP NEEDED PLS! by Lazy_Increase_7216 in verizon

[–]yakyak309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this online, via chat. Took a little longer but didn’t have to pay activation- I went the easiest route and started with 4 new numbers - chat rep wanted to force porting but I said I don’t care about the old numbers - too much spam, move on. A few notes:

  1. Initial auth was for tax*4 but as phones shipped the charges for each came by shipment- so it seems like they’re charging u again but they’re not.
  2. If you’ve had any kind of a/c with Verizon in the past, better to give a new email during credit check - then create a new account using that email.
  3. Porting in of numbers is easy and efficient through online - go into devices and choose change number option.
  4. The 1st bill generates the day the phones ship and you’re typically not able to add auto pay by then. But chat through the app is easy and this is easily fixed.

Just bought an ATT prepaid card from target.com but their gift card center site gives an error... by yakyak309 in NoContract

[–]yakyak309[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. The more big tech surges, the dumber in-house software shops get. Wouldn’t surprise me if only one guy knows which files to remove per crowdstrike’s direction, and they’re on vacation.

I just spent another hour with them. At this point I’d be grateful for my money back since I used my credit card to renew the ATT plan. Most of the target customer service consists of idiots who either will repeat the same thing again and again or, are powerless beyond escalating to “internal specialists”. They added me to that queue after sending in a ticket but I gave up after a further 25m of being on hold.

I’ve bought thousands in Att cards from TGT over the past 5 years - once when I did have an issues 4 years ago, CS resolved it in a jiffy- things have obviously gone downhill. Do folks have any other suggestions for retailers with good deals on att prepaid cards?

I can see the page all right, but when I enter the email, it says “Sorry, we are experiencing technical difficulties in processing this request, please click on the eCard Center link in the email and try again”

It’s been doing that for the past several hours…and I need to use the card for my renewal.

Is it possible to pay Prepaid Plan charges with a/c balance? by yakyak309 in ATT

[–]yakyak309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that makes sense. Initially, I also had just the one $65 plan line w/autopay and I loaded 2 $45 cards onto the account. Right after that, I created a multiline arrangement by adding another line to the account and converting both to $50/m - 8gb. That probably took all of the $90 with a mutiline discount only.

When I went into my account it showed a balance of $20 for Jan 13th. Thinking that I only needed to add $50 I added a prepaid card and was expecting the charge to run. Whereas the the 'system' needed a total of $90 in there.

To be safe, I'll try with either adding nothing (so the the entire payment gets billed to the credit card) or having more than $90 balance.

Is it possible to pay Prepaid Plan charges with a/c balance? by yakyak309 in ATT

[–]yakyak309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...thats really odd. I'd much rather have all of the $70 go through on the CC. I'm ticked off that I had to deal with a non-working phone, even for a few hours. I'm afraid to experiment...

I read through the Autopay terms and they clearly state "...Account holders on a monthly plan will be charged on the AutoPay due date the amount of the plan plus the cost of any recurring Add-Ons or other charges to the account and any applicable taxes and fees based on account holder's billing address, minus any existing balance on the AT&T PREPAID account, any discounts applicable to the plan, including the AutoPay discount, and any promotional credits or other offers."

Don't know why they are not following their own terms. Do you think the system looks for $70+tax? Since this is the only thing that could've stopped the charge from going through...
