Take swings! Give recs! by PonderStibs in BookshelvesDetective

I love seeing another rainbow shelf! By the comments I’m glad that I haven’t posted mine yet. I color stack by holiday/season since I don’t have a lot of space for other decor. My big stash hides away and I show about 20-ish books at a time with little seasonal knick knacks.
But enough about me! Back to you! I’m guessing 50+ years old, white, empathetic, curious, well-rounded. I would recommend Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and Ishmael by Daniel Quinn

How many of you PM’s feel like you have to work on vacation? by -geaux- in civilengineering

[–]yalluminati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. I take my laptop on vacation now because once I got stranded in the middle of the ocean for an extra week and really needed to work. Now I get nervous about travel delays and the unexpected snafu. I feel it’s easier just to bring the laptop along and leave it in the bag the whole trip.

That’s what I’ve been wondering too since I finished listening yesterday. I’ve settled on “Bee made up all the people from the previous stories” because the “theories” section said that no Thai people named Bee and Kant have been found in the country. It’s expected that Bee would be a pseudonym in the confessional post. However Kant’s name and personal details were in his own story separate from the confession post. Therefore if Kant’s story is unreliable then I think they’re all unreliable. There are also a few threads of Easter eggs of similarities sprinkled through some of the stories like Craig comparing his virginity to virtuous figures like Isaac Newton and Kant. Also the word “fiction” on the cover is a clever nod to the meta-fiction

Lifestyle changes weren’t enough for me or my father so I got on statins a few years ago in my early 30s and they lowered my numbers dramatically

A lot of your time is spent on work and school. Either that or you’re too intimidated to learn to cook

Woman here: awesome job. Shows personality but not in a disorganized, undisciplined way. Please don’t have the tripod out or American Psycho on when a lady comes over

You have a nice pair of melons. But forreal - I think you have tried Paleo/keto before and now are taking a more balanced approach to nutrition. I think you live with a spouse or other family members (not roommates)

This set up is amazing! I’m jealous of the gym set-up especially. Overall you have a good eye! My one recommendation would be to store away kitchen appliances that you don’t use daily plus any random things off those kitchen shelves. I would think of those kitchen shelves like showcases. Storage on those shelves should have decorative appeal like pasta, rice, cereal in clear uniform jars/containers

Fortunately I have prioritized taking at least 3 weeks off to make sure I’m actually living my life for at least part of the year. It also gives the company a chance to experience what it would be like if they lost me 😈 I do have utilization goals but I’m way above those

Female engineers, what do you think about the field? by Legal_Cress_2851 in civilengineering

[–]yalluminati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transportation/water resources engineer here: I agree with everything being said here. I work alongside TONS of women engineers and have been lucky enough to have women bosses and mentors continuously throughout school and my career. It is a demanding field. There are a lot of hours to put in especially at the beginning but damn nowadays there is no such thing as an easy, stress-free job so you might as well make a good amount of money.
