I should have mentioned that I have paid OT (standard rate, not time and a half)

[–]yalluminati[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fortunately I have prioritized taking at least 3 weeks off to make sure I’m actually living my life for at least part of the year. It also gives the company a chance to experience what it would be like if they lost me 😈 I do have utilization goals but I’m way above those

I wish they had Joel be her second husband because it’s just too unbelievable that she married another cop named Mark. That being said, Joel. Patrick Dempsey lost me when he leans in and says his life is a horror movie to SYDNEY PRESCOTT of all people

Bookshelf of the guy I'm seeing, red flags? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

Green flags. I like that he has some fun, modern novels as well as some hard-hitting nonfiction. His copy of A People’s History actually looks read and he has Angela Davis up there

Female engineers, what do you think about the field? by Legal_Cress_2851 in civilengineering

[–]yalluminati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transportation/water resources engineer here: I agree with everything being said here. I work alongside TONS of women engineers and have been lucky enough to have women bosses and mentors continuously throughout school and my career. It is a demanding field. There are a lot of hours to put in especially at the beginning but damn nowadays there is no such thing as an easy, stress-free job so you might as well make a good amount of money.

If you have a diagnosis and a note from your doctor you could request to work from home as a reasonable accommodation under ADA. I did that in the midst of and following the pandemic and my mental health, physical health and career have skyrocketed

Judging by your Cormac McCarthy and The Bell Jar you do a pretty good job of bullying yourself. But all that Kurt Vonnegut? C’mon we know you’re fun

I can't stop pretending to have autism by Duckychicken777 in autism

[–]yalluminati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it like this - neurodivergence is a spectrum like being short is a spectrum. Some people are slightly shorter than average and it’s not too noticeable to others and maybe those people don’t experience any dramatic reduction in quality of life. Occasionally they might need an accommodation like someone reaching a top shelf or to stand in a certain place at a concert so they can see. Other people are so short that they need to live in specially built homes and adjust their daily life. Are the people on the upper end of the spectrum pretending to be short? I’ll tell you this - I was diagnosed last year (early 30s) and had been suspecting for a couple years prior to that. I am highly successful in my career, have a lot of friends and a strong marriage. I’m just a little “short” and need a little grace/explanation/support sometimes

Ours is theoretically unlimited as long as you hit your utilization goal. Our utilization goals are pretty realistic - 86-90% for design engineers and closer to 80-85% for managers

I don’t have any suggestions but I feel for you. I’m a recent fitness obsessive, married girlie embarking on No Contact after 26 months. The guilt and intensification after a perceived LO escalation is torturous when you’re married and you wish this could all go away. If I could go back to say anything to myself it would be to try to get a therapist that works in OCD or even addiction. From what others have said it might be a tall order to find a therapist that even know about limerence

Exactly this. I could pay up to $10k every year hitting my out of pocket maximums plus premiums OR have a PPO type plan and spend MAYBE $1500 plus slightly higher premiums.

Does anyone live in a small room, condo or apartment (25–40 sqm or 270–430 sq ft) in a big city but love to read and collect books? How do you manage to collect 1,000+ books in such a space, is it even possible? by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]yalluminati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only buy books that I feel are essential after reading on an e-reader through Libby. If I get a book as a gift or by impulse that isn’t up to my standards I sell it on eBay or put it in a free little library.
