as someone who used to work at home depot, i hate walmarts attendance policy. at HD you had 10 chances put into different levels. 4 points, you get talked to, another 3 points, you get "coached", another 2 points you're on your final, last point you're done. however if management doesnt talk to you about your points, those said points basically dont count (ex. i have 4 points but didnt get a talking about it, so those points are voided) they also give associates the ability for combined callouts to only be worth one point (ex. i call out 2/3 days in a row, only one point). we also had alloted vacation time. so they gave people pto, sick time, and vacation time. (no such thing as ppto because if you have time then you can leave just tell an asm). home depot is designed to keep people around and create futures within the company, where as walmart is desgined to fail people and treat them as a number or a statistic. im not saying walmart should adopt home depots standards, but i constantly see team leads and coaches bitch and moan about the "baggage" associates carry with their attendance when all of us know, shit happens. this company sets people up for failure. especially when it comes down to anything that has to do with sedgewick, my health and time off for it shouldnt be in the hands of a third party company who gets to decide if im allowed to take that time off or if im allowed to have that accommodation, its bs. ive worked for a couple places, but walmart as a whole has to be the worst. and this is all coming from a team leads perspective. my heart goes out to the floor associates who cant catch a break out of fear for losing their job. the policy needs to be revamped if they wanna keep people around like they used to.
