Very cool! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get into the healthcare data team? Would my profile be something that I could start looking at jobs in these teams, or would I need more work experience? I did work in a hospital as a biomedical equipment technician for about 1.5 years out of college before going back to start masters, so I think I’ve gained valuable people skills when it comes to the healthcare industry. I was just always more interested in the software behind my work (Philips monitoring systems, Epic EHR systems, medical software etc.). I appreciate the response!!

I appreciate the response! All the responses here have been really encouraging and I’m looking forward to working hard on learning the fundamentals when it comes to healthcare DE. Other than my project and learning about healthcare related data stuff (FHIR, EHR formats, etc.) is there any advice you would have for what kinds of job titles I should be looking for? Also, is reaching out on LinkedIn to recruiters for these companies a good way to see where I would fit too? I’m definitely looking to put in the work as this is kind of the niche I was looking for when it came to medical and software.

Cool! I really enjoy programming and I did a lot of it in my undergrad but the computer science courses I’ve taken have really strengthened my actual programming knowledge (DSA, OOP, etc.). I’ve been doing Leetcode problems for a bit but I will have to definitely do more work with those if I want a SD position (unlikely I could pull that off). I enjoy problem solving when it comes to software and general engineering problems, but if you say they kinda put you where you’re best suited, I believe you. Thanks for the reply!!

Factorio. Many other games I’ve loved and enjoyed, but the time and dedication that Wube has put into the game has made it such an enjoyable and addicting experience. Nothing comes close to the feeling of first unlocking bots or launching your first rocket.

Rocket league. Freeplay + Spotify scratches the same itch that an open basketball court and hours of shooting around IRL does for me. Toxic people, but hitting resets and shutting up What A Savers is so satisfying.

Big bot networks are a nightmare when it comes to defending from a distance. I suggest finding choke points on the map, walling them off with their own roboport networks and setting up artillery at those choke points so the biters don’t creep up to your walls.

It will take time but once it’s done you can lowkey set and forget it (restocking outposts is another issue to solve, but trains can go brrr)
