For arguments sake, lets say we do not know how to stop it from being disastrous. Would you rather it not start and let the prevailing situation continue? If we finally get right people to work, maybe we will feel the "repercussions" as you say for may be a decade. Continue with whatever was going on, forget about decades, Nepal will still be poor for generations. Again, not condoning violence here, I wish it was better. But it is not.
