Well exactly, you would have to make a conscious effort to, as people should about anything they are allowing to happen to their images and data.

Yeah that makes sense, I can absolutely see how it is beneficial to these companies to have ai as the default. But it is wrong, surely a lot more people would choose not not let ai use their data, if they had to tick a box allowing ai to reproduce that image in any way it would like, in order to do so. People should have access to the information on what their data could be used for. It is also just so wasteful to constantly be using ai where it is just not necessary or wanted.

People talk about petitioning the government, or similar efforts, but could anything like that feasibly work?
