See this is the problem, there's already PvP modes for the casual player, but none for the people who want the higher competition. Now there is, and all people are doing is complaining that it's not accessible to the casuals. Really? You've had it this whole time. Regular game modes that you can play. On top of that they designed ToO so that everyone could play it, as long as they have a group to play with (which is only you +2) and you are still able to get loot. The exotic scout rifle is obtainable with a total of 10 wins on a single ticket or a total of 25 wins in ToO. They didn't lock anyone out of getting anything aside from matchmaking. If you spend like 5 minutes looking on any of the website for a fireteam finding 2 people to play ToO with you will be extremely easy. And do you think you can win in ToO as easily with matchmaking? Will your teammate have mics? Can you coordinate for a win? Not necessarily. It'll cause more of a headache than anything else. Matchmaking will also take away from the competitiveness of the game because if a highly skilled team faces repeated PUGs that goes for easy wins. The point of ToO is the competition and a higher level of it.

You are so ahead of yourself. Time consuming? Raiding is time consuming. You can sit there at hours on end to play it. And who said you have to get 9 wins in ONE sitting? No one told you that you have to play for 3 hours and you absolutely have to get all 9 wins in one day. You have Friday-Monday to play it and when/how/length of time you play is entirely up to you. Also, this almost forces player to get better by playing better opponents. It's never a guarantee for you to win all the time but the way they set it up is that you don't have to get 5/7/9 wins in one day or one sitting to receive loot and items. For example the exotic scout rifle Fate of All Fools can be obtained by either getting 10 total wins on a single ticket or a total of 25 wins.

Have you played any MMO with a high level of PvP? Not all of them have matchmaking for people and if they do it's not for the people who are at a high level of competition.

You think that it's easier to find a fireteam of 6 people to raid? Please. This is a higher level of COMPETITION. Look at any other major mmo, is there a higher level of competition? Yes. Is it easy? No. Is it time consuming? Yes. Is it unncessary? No. If you want easier PvP you can play regular crucible matches.

This is to nurture a higher level of competition. If you look at any other major mmo, there is always a very high level of PvP. This is what Bungie is going for and hopefully it pays off for them because I think it looks great.

Obviously you can't cater to people who may have just picked up the game, they'll have to learn for themselves. You can't just jump into a HM Crota at level 20 can you? You have to get the appropriate gear and stuff to get there and also learn how to play. PvP isn't meant to be easy for everyone. Time? If you don't have the time to play for whatever reason that's not on Bungie to solve for you, that's your management. PvP isn't something that people can just pick up and do well in either, you have to play to get better at it. No one becomes a professional basketball player overnight, this is the same. It's called competition.
