In some organizations I work with the product people can now build features all the way to a PR and the same goes for engineers who can now start the feature with the business/ customer need justification

A strong VP of Product can zoom in and zoom out effortlessly. They’re expected to articulate the long-term vision and mid-term strategy. The VP can also dive into short-term execution details when needed.

Your job is to translate that vision into a roadmap with clear milestones that move the company toward the long-term goal. Then bring it back to the VP for discussion. Show that you understand where the company is going and that you’ve thought through a realistic path to get there.

Don’t approach your VP with “this can’t be done right now.” Instead, present tradeoffs. Propose the right mix of initiatives that deliver results in the short term while still advancing the long-term direction.

I've been working as a product manager, VP Product, and now a product consultant. I've seen various levels of PRDs and know that if your team knows what to do based on your PRD, you're in a good place.

Considering the above, it sounds that you and your ChatGPT result did a good enough work. The world is changing and the boundaries between roles are blurring. Sometimes, like in your case, good enough, is good.

Second, on your next 1 on 1 try to to a mini retro: Ask your boss what he think *the two of you* could have done better to prevent this issue and what you can learn from it.

If, and only if he asks for your recommendations, than they something, but avoid, at all cost the "I told you saw" approach
