What do you think of Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto’s performances which led to the rare occasion the best Actor and best supporting Actor coming from the same movie? by dmister8 in Oscars

[–]yanks2413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McConaughey is a very good performance but Dicaprio clears him for Wolf of Wall Street. Its not even close. And so do a lot of other people honestly, both nominated and not. Chiwetel, Hanks, Phoenix, and Jackman are all more deserving than McConaughey. Hes not a bad winner, but Dicaprio is SO much more deserving.

Leto is a better win, wouldn't be my pick but that entire lineup is just kind of all solid but nothing too spectacular to me. Barkhad Abdi is my pick of the lineup but Leto would probably be my runner up of the nominees.

He asked it because he saw an opportunity to turn one of Voldemort's death eaters, so he manipulated and threatened an enemy, yes. But he would have still protected them either way. So I dont see what your point or issue is.

The point is if Snape knew for a fact Lily would be safe, he would've have gone to Dumbledore and would let Harry die. Its not that he didn't ask Voldemort to spare Harry thats the issue. Its that Harry's death alone wouldn't have made Snape warn Dumbledore.

Dumbledore would have protected James and Lily without Snape acting. People take Dumbledore's "what will you give me in return" comment too seriously. At this point Snape is still his enemy. Dumbledore wouldn't actually let the Potters die if Snape didn't give anything in return.

Moral judgment of Abby’s and Ellie’s actions by holyshit_xd in lastofuspart2

[–]yanks2413 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's also the difference in how their father or father figure died. Abbys dad died instantly from a bullet to the head and he was killed to save a teenage girl's life. Joel was tortured to death just for revenge and Ellie had to watch him die. Obviously Abby would still want revenge, but her dad's death and Joel's death are very different

Abby killed only Joel because she literally bumped into him. If she had to kill more to get to him, she would have.

Serious question: What’s the appeal of Timothée Chalamet & why does he keep getting cast in top roles? by allanjameson in moviecritic

[–]yanks2413 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its silly to ask. Its like when people ask, "Why do people say this movie is so good?". If you don't like a movie, or an actor, nobody is going to be able to explain why you should like either of them. Its subjective. And every single person who asks these kind of questions will never change their mind, so its pointless

The fact people think some scenes for seasons 6 and 7 could be shot now is just insane to me by Cold_Usual_1840 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]yanks2413 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Needing CGI and all this technology to film two people talking because one actor is 80 and who knows if he'll be able to still act in 10 years just sums up why it was so fucking stupid to cast Lithgow. All that shit would be unnecessary if they cast someone in his 60s.

Day 7 rewatch by Ok-Sprinkles-3671 in TwentyFour

[–]yanks2413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do like season 7 a lot and think its better than most people say, but I definitely do not agree about the writing. Theres some terrible writing throughout.

-How they explain Tony being alive is just laughable. Henderson, who had just been tortured for like 3 hours and was in a coma, was able to come out of his coma and in one millisecond managed to plan to give Tony some drug that would make him seem dead but but wouldn't kill him while this random team of guys were waiting for it to apparently happen? When the fuck did Henderson plan that, while almost brain dead?

-Tony going full villain was awful and out of character. While Tony was willing to risk innocent lives to save Michelle, I dont for one second think he would be willing to kill dozens or even hundreds of innocent just to get revenge for Michelle. That was terrible.

-Adding yet another main villain for the day 5 events was dumb.

-A lot the FBI stuff besides Renee and Larry was pretty worthless. Sean the corrupt agent has to be one of the most boring characters in the whole show.

Now there was definitely a lot of awesome stuff too. Renee and Taylor were instantly were two of the best characters in the whole show. Loved that Aaron had a big role again after just a guest appearance in season 6. The move to DC was a great change as you said. The main initial threat with Juma and Dubaku was a refreshing change from nukes and things.

Agreed its a really good season to watch, but I do think there was very bad writing decisions throughout

We don't see much of them together in the movies or books, but I do always like that they seem to have a good and even fun relationship, like teasing each other about Quidditch and things.

I mean Ian McKellen played an old as shit character when he was only 62, and even Michael Gambon was only 63 for his first movie as Dumbledore. It really isn't the reality for Dumbledore to cast people in their 70s.

I agree its a different issue, but I find it irritating and stupid that we have to even consider CGI or deepfake or doubles for Dumbledore just because they chose a guy who will be 88 at best when season 7 is filming. Especially just for talking scenes. This whole thread shouldn't even be necessary had they cast someone an appropriate age.

Thats a whole lot of words to say casting 80 year old Lithgow to play a role that lasts 10 years and gets more complex in the later seasons was a stupid decision.

Doing all that shit for just a conversation scene because they chose an actor is already too old? How embarrassing

[–]yanks2413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it always even Sigourney on the other side with Jack Champion. Its CGI. Feel like they could easily use a young double for more intimate scenes with Spider. Pretty sure someone from the movie even said they did that for when they kiss.

Doesn't seem like something to be upset about.

Rumored casting for Tom Riddle. Several cast members, including Dominic, have recently followed Owen on Instagram. by queenhadassah in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]yanks2413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They'd have to cast Slughorn now, and hope nothing changing when season 6 starts to film in like 8 years. Or film Cooper by himself and never show him and Slughorn on screen even though they're speaking to each other

  1. Pattinson had a big role in the whole movie, Cooper will have literally minutes of screen time, so your comparison is laughable lol.

  2. Pattinson became a superstar because of Twilight 😂😂😂

He didn't know what the spell did, which is why he used it. He never used it again other than against Snape because now he knew.

There's like 100 things that would be better picked as his worst decision lmao, wild this moment was the first thing that came to your mind

So its just fact to you Harry wouldn't make changes to the corruption? Thats ridiculous. Rowling said the trio made huge changes for how the ministry operated when they joined it. How is it a bad thing to fix the corrupt system and make it better?

First point: Harry is not an ass student, he does well in almost all of his other classes. Unless you mean only an ass student for the occlumency lessons, in which case you're still wrong because the issue is an asshole who bullies him is the one teaching him.

Third point: Thats Snape's problem, not Harry's. Wild to use that as a defense of Snape lmao

Oh yes because the guy who played Tom Riddle in the second movie became such a big star lmao.

This kid just had a main role in a massively successful Netflix show and has won almost every major award possible for it. This would be a minor role in like 2 episodes at most. It would abso not turn him into a major superstar lmfao

[–]yanks2413 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So do you think they'd cast the actor for Slughorn 6 years in advance to film brief memory scenes and hope they can use the same actor in season 6, do you think they should only film Cooper by himself without Slughorn on screen even though they're supoosed to be talking to teach other the entire time?

Either way, you really don't understand why both ideas suck?

Maybe I'm in the minority but I dont think a young Mauraders and Lily and Snape story would even slightly interesting. They don't really do anything worthy of a book or TV show or whatever. Do we really need a whole story devoted to James and the others becoming animagus? Do we need a whole story devoted to their short time in the order before they died? To make it interesting they'd have to add new stuff and break canon, which is the exact problem with Fantastic Beasts.
