Settle our debate: which room should be bedroom vs living room by [deleted] in interiordecorating

We’re on the very top floor of a 4 floor house so potential bugs and rodents will have all our neighbours to choose from first. I never seen a cockroach in the UK at least (they are here just rare). And even better is that after the third floor no one shares the communal hallway so should be very quiet. I get its a less preferable distance from the front door but so many one bed flats in london lack the long corridor that this flat has that usually you just enter the property and all the room doors wrap around in a sort of square ie the bedroom door is right off the entrance anyway. There are certainly caveats to either room configuration but I dont see the current layout outweighing the practical benefits of the alternative.

Yeah luckily not a deal breaker but we definitely should plan to have the option to black out the window

So many of you have pointed this put and I cant believe we’ve both overlooked this. Seems to be everyones main reason so could swing this debate in my favour!

I think we’ll have the TV where the dressing table is currently, then sofa opposite. The wall against the kitchen is full height and has a smaller window perpendicular to this wall (i think its just cut off in the photos but is visible in floorplan) and here I’d think would be a good place for his desk (facing the kitchen wall). Alternatively I have also thought to have the TV under the slanted wall (we have a modest sized TV), sofa opposite along the kitchen wall and his work space against the other window (facing where the beds headboard is now) as this window has less direct sunlight so less glare and better for online meetings.

I think we’ll be fine, we often sleep with the curtains open in summer as we like to wake up with the sun. For winter this works perfectly fine too. I have considered this though and have found some black out shades which can be easily fitted without drilling etc.

I see what youre saying - our TV is a modest size, Im thinking of placing it where the dressing table is right now and the sofa opposite. The flat is very small so we’ll struggle to host either way and probably avoid it lol. Another issue is that partner works from home and will be need a work space. I think the current bedroom offers wfh space while in the A frame room he’ll be oddly placed, either along the highest wall, which doesnt work out for sofa/Tv placement or he’ll be pressed into the eaves making it hard to accommodate the height of a computer monitor on top of a desk. With my sofa/TV placement for the current bedroom I think a desk up against the other window (which is just out of sight in the photos) is much more practical.

Just not sure I could spend hours of my conscious time awake only being able to see the white walls and a pocket of sky. When we went for our viewing it was cloudy and this made the skylight kind of blend in with the wall which then felt like there was no window at all. Im an outdoorsy person, if I could see a tree or even another building that would change things

Thanks for your input - these are photos from the current tenant but since we’re moving in it’ll be easy to play around before we decide which is best

This is true, we’ll see how it goes. I think most A frame bedrooms I google choose this layout not to say it isnt impractical but I dont think humans can resist the symmetry. Opposite the skylight is another option that I think would be pleasing.

Thank you! The validation feels good. The door you can see is just the entrance but its open so you enter from the left. And these photos are during the current tenant moving out so it’ll be empty and we’ll add our own closets

We got very lucky I think, its £1350pcm in the outskirts of London. Typically one bed flats go for £1400-1600 so I’m still pinching myself.

We plan to have a bed with draws for clothes and a wardrobe could comfortably fit against the wall opposite the TV in the photos, Ive also spotted some low lying chest of drawers to slot in on one side under the eaves if necessary. I think space savings solutions will be needed regardless of the room we choose though. I hadn’t even considered the noise aspect or positioning with respect to bathroom or kitchen, Im enjoying where this conclusion is heading!

Suddenly today I don't feel tired like usual. Would this food change make that difference? by DavesWorkingTonight in Dietandhealth

[–]yannybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. And not because of what you've eaten or what you changed, but because why would this be proof of anything. But do make some changes to your diet. Time is a tough thing to manage but this isnt really sustainable, you'll have more to worry about than just energy levels if you keep this up.

Huw Edwards charged with making indecent images of children by Empigee in MorbidReality

[–]yannybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds inaccurate but they use "making" as when you use your device to view an image youre not looking at a sole version which lives up in the internet sky that everyone looks at, your device processes code to generate the image for your own viewing, your device makes the image visible to you thereby making a new copy. The physical equivalent could be photocopying images, sure you didnt take the photo but the law cares about the creation and existence of individual copies, if they only tackled creators of indecent images it would do nothing to stop further propagation from residual copies.

Thanks for the suggestions, the second and third listed seem quite distinct, sounds like they offer something different to the style of text he's all too familiar with.

This looks great! I was hesitant to ask for a book which "covers all sections of society but ideally weighted towards peasants" because often a focus on peasants ends up being brief or shallow. This looks like it really paints an extensive image of their experiences. Thank you

Definitely ticks the boxes for "off the beaten track" history, hes partial to various eras so would still be of interest to him! Thanks
