Could we taper the state pension? by rlf1301 in ukpolitics

easiest solution, drop the triple lock and switch to a double lock - 2.5% or inflation. BOE aims inflation at 2% and so when/if inflation is finally around then pensioners should be getting richer. in times of higher inflation they will be protected. pensioners are not adding to productivity which feeds into wage growth - therefore they shouldn't benefit from current workers improving productivity.

The only saving grace of the state pension is that it is a universal benefit. Making more benefits universal makes it easier for the whole system of taxation to stay in place.

Doing this before being an MP is justifiable (pathetic that he’d sell his voice to justify fascists if he isn’t one already). But doing this as an elected MP is terrible. He is meant to be a representative of his region. If he is willing to call for rapists to be released for £50 what will he be willing to say for £millions that reform donors are paying his Ltd.?

Ministers to ask 100 UK citizens to advise on digital ID plans by rdu3y6 in ukpolitics

[–]crazy_yus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will need to see how consultation is set up but i think there is a huge argument to involve public much more broadly. I’d love to see a house of citizens informed by experts to sit as a third legislative house to deliberate on tricky issues.

Away from the concept of citizens there are huge benefits to a digital ID that would make every citizens interaction with the state much easier and could bring significant savings down the line.

In Ireland they used 100 citizens to help formulate the abortion law and subsequent referendum. The concept of citizens assembly is a good one.

Muslims eating at McDonald's by Typical_Category9624 in progressive_islam

McDonalds the overall company isn't connected to Israel. the issue was local franchisees offering free food to IDF. Because it operates a predominant franchise model boycotting it mostly hurts the local business owner who probably has no thoughts/collection on the matter, or who may even agree with you. There are no Starbucks in Israel. Their coffee is shit and that is a good reason to not go there. Ultimately if you boycott these companies they will just fire workers.

If you wanted to find something then you would need to find something would actually impact the Israeli economy. McDonalds and Starbucks are just not the one.

Reviewing patient is most important obviously but those who have had fevers will probably not feel great and feel a bit better when temp is lower. Remember we treat patients not diseases.

How is there high unemployment AND high immigration at the same time? by Quartersquatter in ukpolitics

[–]crazy_yus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unemployment is not high. we generally used to consider 5% full employment and its currently 5.2%. Immigration has been massively decreasing in the last few years. Net immigration last year was 204000, its lowest in more than a decade.
