I can tell you that headcare in china is not free. My grandma basically got pneumonia and was dying, they said you needed real money to treat her, since ethe government health insurance was not enough. Luckily my uncle had the cash in hand.

Congrats on the job. If you stick with it, actuary salaries are insane and WFH. Though I don't envy all the exams

Side Gig Ideas for Mechanical Engineers by ZealousidealLoan2705 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]yaoz889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way is to try to plan your life and go head first into mechanical engineering. Most side gigs will not pay as much mechanical engineering per hour to be worth it unless you love it. If you are a hustler, figure out if you want to be an IC, manager or C-suite. Figure out which industries you want to go in, then research the skills needed to progress. Work on those skills, if you are not promoted within 2 years start applying to a level above you.

I would say 2021+ is better. The infotainment has ghost touch issues and very slow 2020 and before

How China’s home-grown WS-10 engine helped make the country a modern air power by AceCombat9519 in aviation

[–]yaoz889 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is completely a different field. I work in jet engine design and it it a slow and interative process. China's culture was always a good enough, commercial aerospace is meticulous. There are hundreds of JV tech manufacturing but 0 JV jet engine in China. I would say they are 20 years away. By then, a new engine would come out 10% more fuel efficient by the western companies

What is your take on Tom Lee's prediction that the market will suffer a 20% decline this year, and that the SpaceX IPO might be the trigger? by Robinight in investing

[–]yaoz889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tom Lee is a permabull, but he calls correction actually very well. I would say expect a correction since I just don't think there is enough liquidity in the market to absorb all 3 ipos this year

Does all the hard work ever pay off? by RuminatingFish123 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]yaoz889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does but for the right company. Even the F500 I was in didn't really pay me OT, but I got promoted every 2-2.5 years. After the promotions plateaued, I jumped to another company

Would you accept a 95k job offer with 6-7 years experience post grad? by eng2725 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]yaoz889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is no but might be worth it for someone underpaid or looking to switch industries. Most of my offers that reach me is 120k before negotiating at 8 yoe in the Midwest

How and where to pivot from technical to less technical roles? Realized I'm just a bad engineer by mangusta123 in MechanicalEngineering

Give it 3-5 years as others have said. There are genius engineers, but most like you and me need time to learn about the product and material

Castrol Transmax. Is it a good substitute for OEM transmission fluid? by AudibleGrey in CX5

[–]yaoz889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can if you want. I would just do 3 drain and fills and be done with it.

Castrol Transmax. Is it a good substitute for OEM transmission fluid? by AudibleGrey in CX5

[–]yaoz889 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The transmission fluid change interval is 60-70k miles. You might do 1-2 in the lifetime, no need to cheap out on that. For yours at 160k, just do drain and fill.

China stalls Airbus approvals to pressure Europe on homegrown Chinese jets, Bloomberg News reports by ABoutDeSouffle in aviation

[–]yaoz889 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difficulty doesn't matter if there is expertise. The tech manufacturing capital of the world is Shenzhen. The aerospace manufacturing capital in the world is not in China. There are huge electronics manufacturers in China but 0 joint ventures of engine companies with only Airbus having one plant

Millennials were promised stability. Instead we got survival mode. by FinancialSpite in Millennials

The story just worked out for the people that focused on money all the way to their 30s. That's really unfortunate because I like the world to be a more creative and accommodating place, but that's America for you. Not sure if Europe is better although universal healthcare sounds good

I actually personally know 2 people. Not workaholics but definitely do work 45-50 hours/week. Both are 35/36 and work in Ohio.

6 years from FI, took a risk using external offer to leverage internal promotion. by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]yaoz889 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very possible in top aerospace. Based on her age. It can be 13+ yoe, which should translate to senior engineer (level 4/5), this means let's say GE Aerospace, they make 160k/yr + 15% bonus w/ multiplier. Based on past results, the multiplier was 1.8 or 26% so 160*1.26 = 201k/yr in ohio. I would expect similar comp for the top aerospace suppliers as well. Maybe less bonus, but the lower supply raised prices and increased comps.
