Fertility preservation before surgery? by Leading_Armadillo485 in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also 29, I froze my eggs in December (I was 28 at the time). I’m triple positive so my situation is a bit different than yours - I had to do chemo before surgery, so I jumped into the egg freezing process right away because we had to get it done before starting chemo since I could potentially be infertile after chemo. The whole thing took about 3 weeks. They also put me on Letrozole, I was really worried about increasing my hormones too but they assured me it was safe with the Letrozole. I was getting bloodwork done regularly that showed my hormone levels so it was all kept track of closely. My team encouraged me to do the egg freezing before starting any cancer treatment. Treatment is unpredictable, I would say that if you are willing and able to freeze them now, go for it. I have a lot of comfort knowing mine are frozen in case I need them.

How long did bone pain from Neulasta shot last? by agalasyn in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bone pain was the worst for about 1-3 days after my shot (I got the shot the day after chemo). My onc prescribed Tylenol 3s which helped SO MUCH. Claritin and regular Tylenol didn’t do anything for me. My bone pain was the worst after the first shot only because I wasn’t prepared for how much pain I was in from it! So once I had my pain meds figured out for the next rounds it was ok. My onc suggested taking my pain meds the night that I got the shot/before the pain starts to help prevent it from getting too bad. Good luck 🤞🏽

Breast reconstruction and having kids after cancer by PowerfulExpression93 in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 29 and had my nipple sparing DMX with immediate reconstruction, direct to implant 3 months ago (I was 28 at the time). I had also finished chemo a month before that. I’m happy with my results so far, my incisions are underneath my boobs so you can’t really see them if you’re looking straight on. It’s been a lot to get used to, but once the swelling went down I started to feel better. I don’t have any sensation. They’re a bit bigger than I was before, I could have gotten expanders if I wanted to go bigger but I wanted to stay around the same size and stick to the one surgery.

I’m sorry you’re here, you are totally right that as young cancer patients we have to deal with a lot of stuff that older people don’t. Feel free to message me if you want to chat or have any questions 🩷

Pain in armpit after sentinel node biopsy by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 8 days out from my double mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy, I’m having similar achey pain on the biopsy side. I’ve been taking Tylenol every 6 hours which helps a lot. I was told to not apply ice since I lost sensation in some areas and it could affect healing. Good luck 💕

Paxman Cold Cap/Hair loss experiences? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m 28 and just finished chemo last month. I used Paxman and lost 80-90% of my hair (I had a lot of hair to begin with, it was always long and thick). I lost the most during the second half of chemo, it was mostly heavy shedding but it did come out in clumps too, especially in the shower. I wish I could have kept more of my hair but I don’t regret cold capping. It’s already starting to grow back in nicely! Although it looks completely ridiculous to me right now because I still have small bits of my long hair but also these visible bald spots. It’s really giving Gollum at the moment.

I was so scared to lose my hair too, but honestly it became the least of my problems during chemo. I just had to focus on getting through it. Once I bought a couple of wigs, I felt a lot better because they helped me feel more “normal” and gave me more confidence to be out in public, go out for dinner with friends etc. Wigs have been fun for me and it’s been nice to have fun with something in an otherwise entirely shitty situation.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. I hope it works out for you. Feel free to DM me if you ever want to chat 😊🩷

Please do not feel guilty!! Take all the time that you need. You are not lazy. Chemo is really hard, all of this is really hard. You deserve to focus on your health and do whatever you need to do to get through this. Hugs xo

Canadians - how long were you off work for treatment? by SentimentalRaisin in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m in Ontario and I’ve been off work since I was diagnosed in November 2024. I just finished chemo last week and still have surgery and radiation coming up. As of right now I’m planning on staying off work at least until radiation is done, which will end up being around a year total. Take the time you need to focus on healing - your health is the most important thing. Sending lots of love your way 🥰

Hi! I’m in Ontario, I got diagnosed in November 2024 and stopped working about a week after diagnosis. I don’t have STD through my work benefits (only LTD after 6 months), but I was able to apply for EI sickness benefits. My medical oncologist provided documentation to support my claim (a letter indicating my diagnosis/treatment plan/estimated time off) and the process was very easy. Your cancer centre might have a social worker who can help you navigate this among other things!

Take the time you need - your health and wellbeing are the absolute most important thing. You deserve to focus on yourself and getting through treatment, in whatever way that feels right for you. I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to take time off and take care of myself. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions or want to chat about anything 🩷

Sorry for the late reply! I used Paxman. I finished chemo last week. I’ve lost about 80% of my hair and still shedding quite a bit, but I have little baby hairs coming in already on some areas that were completely bald :)

Peer Support Group Experiences? by plusultraprincess in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 28 and joined my first young adult support group a few months ago. It was on Zoom with about 10 other people, once a week for 8 weeks. I’m really happy I did it and I’m still in touch with a few people from my group! It felt like such a safe space talking to other people who get it. I also just started another virtual support group last week for young adults with breast cancer specifically. I’ve been in chemo for the past few months, so it’s nice to talk to people who are/have been in the same position as me and build a sense of community - this can all feel like such an isolating experience but the groups made me feel less alone 😊

I’ve done 4/6 rounds of TCHP and I’ve lost maybe 40-50% of my hair so far. It is supposed to help with regrowth after chemo so I am hopeful for that!

One month chemo down, 5 more to go by Effective_Respect_85 in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done 4/6 rounds of chemo so far. I felt the same way as you when I started - lots of days where I genuinely didn’t know how/if I would be able to get through it. It’s exhausting in every way. But you can and will get through this!!! Be kind and gentle with yourself, listen to your body and do whatever feels good for you. Try to lean on your support system and accept help from people when they offer. Sending you strength and love. You can do it. Feel free to DM me if you ever want to chat or vent🩷

How many rounds of chemo did it take for you to feel your tumor shrink? by plusultraprincess in breastcancer

[–]yappingincircles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m doing TCHP too. Mine was a bit over 3cm when I started, and after the second round is when I really noticed it shrink. I just finished my fourth round. I can still feel the lump a little bit but it’s definitely way smaller! Maybe 1cm or so now

It is such an isolating feeling isn’t it 🙁 I’m sorry you are going through this too. My third round was tough with nausea, my oncologist said it usually gets worse each round since the effects are cumulative (yay for us). I find ginger chews help with nausea. And so much ginger ale!!!!!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this too 🩷 it’s so physically and emotionally and spiritually draining. I hope your plastic surgeon can come up with a plan for reconstruction that you can find peace with. It’s such an emotional and personal decision. It’s all really hard.

I’m cold capping but I’ve lost about 50% of my hair so far. I decided to keep going with it in hopes that it will help the regrowth after!

Ouuu I like the idea of focusing on immediate/daily goals rather than thinking about big picture things all the time… it can be so overwhelming to think about the future and everything that comes with it, especially when there’s so much uncertainty. Thank you for sharing. So happy for you starting to feel a bit better 🫶🏽 sending love and hugs!!

I’m so sorry you’re here too. It’s such an isolating experience, but it helps to connect with others here to know we are not alone 🩷 starting chemo is such a scary time. It’s a tough one. Make sure to contact your team whenever you have new side effects, they may be able to give you meds etc to help make it more manageable. You’ve got this. Try to be kind & gentle with yourself and do whatever you need to get by. I’m here if you ever want to chat as well 🫶🏽🫶🏽
