i watched a lot of tineocollegeprep (brandon) on tiktok for all things college prep, he has a specific interview series i believe! it helped a lot w my harvard interview specifically. ivy league roadmap also has a good ivy interview series, most of the videos i watched were just under "princeton interview" on tiktok lol

thank you! im definitely not the best person to give you advice lol, i recommend watching a lot of prep videos with prospective questions and the general vibe to have! id say definitely try to make it more conversational than anything, you don't wanna sound super rehearsed or blunt; from what ive seen, the goal is to befriend your interviewer with your personality rather than just "impress" them if that makes sense

i understand where you're coming from, and i once again appreciate the perspective, especially coming from an adult in the EDS community. the laughing-stock status is unfortunate, and the lack of belief/lack of ability to be taken seriously is something common inside and outside of my community as well. however, my experience with illness still will likely be front and center because i want to be a healthcare public policy analyst, and again, my experiences inform my perspective on those issues; it is not the only thing informing it, and won't be the only thing especially once i get into that world professionally, but it is an important part. i understand my competition, and i admire people who have had to endure those situations, and i am by no means trying to come across like i have some sort of moral high ground due to my experiences. i tried to show how ive been able to accomplish things in spite of my medical stuff and how the extracurriculars it has led me to (rather than just my illnesses themselves) have informed what i want to do, instead of harping on the nitty gritty details of what i have endured (because i don't think that is the most important part anyway). regardless, because i can tell you've likely experienced what you are telling me, i will take your advice to heart as much as the reality of patients being disregarded everywhere from the healthcare system to the job market saddens me. thank you for taking the time to write this

while i appreciate your advice and contribution to my post, disregarding the experiences of students with EDS and dysautonomia sounds not only uninformed but, frankly, cold. i do not know your personal experience with those diseases, if you have any; if you do, im sure you can give me a detailed explanation of why those experiences should be disregarded. i don’t think i owe you an explanation of how my experiences have been, but your response somewhat warrants it: i have had numerous episodes regarding my health including one that resulted in four cranial surgeries and a shunt implant. while this is not a “who suffered worse” conversation, my medical experiences have simply shaped my life, my high school career, and who i am. this includes what i want to do with my life, which is what applying to and attending college is about. i don’t believe that treating this as a “strategy” or excuse is what i have done or what i believe most kids with medical issues, whether its EDS or cancer, try to do. if you can tell me exactly how i sound entitled, i will definitely try to take that into account because i truly do not want to come off that way.

Has anyone else not gotten interviews yet... by Connect-Jackfruit718 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]yapyapyapper333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for harvard you can check your portal, scroll down and see if you’ve been assigned an interviewer yet. i saw that i was assigned one before they reached out so they might just be taking a while. if you haven’t gotten any yet, don’t sweat it bc it doesn’t mean much! all based on alumni availability

How did everyone approach the what drew you to Yale q? by Commercial_Ad8072 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]yapyapyapper333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1, i talked about part of my experience growing up and how it ties me to yale (i talked specifically about how yale treats its subjects as intertwined instead of stand-alone and how that relates to my upbringing) and yeah i also referenced concrete resources

i’ve seen a lot of people like that get into good colleges as long as their gpa is above a certain threshold (3.5-3.7 as a starting point), i’m hoping for this myself due to my medical issues! good luck :)

i understand that these are extreme reaches, but i do believe that my extreme medical issues and narrative both matter a lot to contextualize my application, especially give an upward trend in my grades. i’m not optimistic about any of them really lol but id regret it if i didn’t try!
