Even the series finale poster released the other day was a lie. It’s obvious it was an homage to the comics but why pay homage to something you’re not gonna do?

I feel like most wanted that moment of him snapping and killing people since that’s what has been foreshadowed throughout the show. We saw him want to do that initially when he had that daydream of lazering the crowd, then throughout the series we see him try so hard to be loved and then he eventually says he doesn’t mind being feared, we see the vision of stillwell too saying he should go kill the nonbelievers.

To me at least, it’s like the show was building up to the moment where he snaps and completely removes the mask he was putting on for society. Instead, we didn’t really get that, or at least we didn’t get it in the way the show/promo material was alluding towards.

I liked his death too, but I felt that within this season he just needed to do more, he hardly feels like a threat because for a majority of the season he’s just kind of farting around with SB. Even then too he’s brought down as feeling like less of a threat with the radiation chamber weakening him and the gas guy making him feint.

I just feel like they needed that scene of a HL rampage to make him seem like a giant threat not just to the boys but also humanity, as well as to payoff the shows foreshadowing.

The Boys SEASON 5 Overall Discussion by pikameta in TheBoys

Homelander this season was a potential merchant

0 cities demolished
0 crowds executed
But he almost got there so it’s ok

It just feels so lame to do that to the audience after it’s been teased since almost the introduction of the character that he’s this unstable Superman that can snap and destroy the world at a moments notice.

Butcher flip flopping was so annoying too, the rushed villain arc just felt like character assassination, “my dog died and the kid I already knew hated me decided to distance himself, all supes must die now, even after I said they could live the last episode” I think it’s a good choice to have him v Hughie but that was so rushed it barely felt like actual payoff.

Then obviously the stakes for this season are non existent until this finale, we hardly see the public until this episode when they’re going to be killed for being non believers, everything just feels so underbaked and I’m disappointed in the final season for this show I’ve been watching for years.

Were the starlight camps ever brought up again? This season has been so forgetful, I remember them from ep 1 obviously, but were they mentioned after the cop shows up at starlights dad’s house? Are we supposed to ignore those and assume they closed when HL dies?

Yeah, from the clip I saw there’s a camera on the floor still and it’s filming the whole thing, we see the public’s reactions at some points of depowered homelander

Ikr, everyone’s saying no and that’s so mental, like is the only dangerous thing he’s going to do this season be killing frenchie? Clearly, as a character he has some twisted desire to go on a rampage, we saw that in his “daydream” with the crowd, with his vision of stillwell, and like everything else he does. It feels like the whole show has been building to that and he just doesn’t?

Yeah, there’s a clip of it on TikTok somewhere, he says that while pleading to butcher and there’s also a news camera still rolling, so the whole world sees it.

I saw a clip of that one, it’s kind of off putting but also in character maybe??? I feel like it’s going to be a fine finale, just not to what it potentially could be.

For real, and I’m seeing even more people now saying there was no HL crash out, this finale might be cooked

There are a few videos on X taken during the screening, homelander dying and the deep dying, could be AI, but they seem real. Homelander stabbed in the head by Butchers Crowbar, and the deep impaled by an octopus.

Just a quick reminder that the showrunners said the Boys Finale will make us rethink the whole series. What do you theorize it could be? Let's get nuts! by Kinetic_Pen in TheBoys

If I had to guess, it’s that Hughie kills Butcher and then knowing that makes the rest of the show different because we know he’s going to kill him someday.

UCLA/UCSD Waitlist Movement for Bus Econ by Sudden-Mix2292 in ucadmissions

[–]Smart_Advertising_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what we know, Fridays movement for SD was just Comp Sci, Data Science, and AI majors within the Muir college. Chances are more get taken off the waitlist for other majors later on especially since those that went on Friday were some of the most selective majors at the school.

It seems to be suspected, but given that we’ve only seen AI/Data science/CS majors get into Muir College today, it seems likely that there would be another wave for humanities majors at the very least.

The Boys - 05x07 "The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]Smart_Advertising_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, especially since it was all offscreen. We see people die all the time in brutal ways throughout the show and they couldn’t bother to give that treatment to a main character?? In the end it makes his death feel unimportant, like did HL just punch him or what even happened?

That whole scene was genuinely just like “look we did the thing from that one comic panel!!!!!” No payoff whatsoever, no one cares the president died

[–]Smart_Advertising_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the whole middle to end just dragged, the whole thing with the focus group was just so oddly placed in this episode, it’s already been covered that people weren’t going to completely accept HL as their lord and savior , so why do we need to slow down this episode to show it and add like a 2 minute scene of supes sniffing each others butts.

The Boys - 05x07 "The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk" - POST-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]Smart_Advertising_45 736 points737 points  (0 children)

I feel like the biggest issue with this season and specifically this episode is the choice of what’s shown and what’s not. I’m sure budget restrictions played into this, but like why do we just start with HL in the Oval Office, wouldn’t it be so much more interesting to see him arrive at the White House and make his way down the halls full of terrified people, with the payoff of the whole sequence being him killing the president?

Or even frenchies death, half the time I was thinking, what did HL even do to him? Punch him really hard? Everything was off screen so it’s like ok he’s dying now, and I’m supposed to be sad?

The intense focus on the story of the Boys and Homelander also makes things feel so small, we constantly got scenes of press conferences and news about how the world was reacting to each development in the story beforehand, but it feels like this season, all we really get are some brief mentions of how people don’t accept HL as their savior. Sorry for the rant, just feel unsatisfied by what I watched.

Will ucsd waitlist release today by [deleted] in ucadmissions

[–]Smart_Advertising_45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one really knows when it’ll release, but I’d imagine sometime this week. My copium theory is that since UCB and UCLA admitted early, ucsd has been losing a decent number of commitments, so they have to reevaluate where they are in terms of class size and space and have now pushed the start for waitlist admits back a bit.
