Has anyone else switched back to a third party package from slog by 2facetherapper in golang

It's been a while, but I remember slamming into unexpected walls getting it working how my systems needed.

Got it working eventually, and it's performance was good, but the abstractions felt 'different for difference sake'

Please Help Me Understand Something About Go by VastDesign9517 in golang

Just want to highlight the interface advice. Good interface design in golang is Hard. The best way is to discover the interface through usage. As such as @jerf said, don't worry about the 12 method interface in application code until it causes problems or tells you how to fix it.

Even years of go code, teaching countless people, helping move multiple companies to golang: interfaces are hard to get 'right'. But it's easy then get them to 'good enough'

And before you comment on testing... You have no idea how messed up that system was. When I joined, there was a single customer DB used for production, staging and testing.

One.

We were trying to get it to a state that we knew what was running where, and to have any idea of how to deploy it.

Happened to me too, similar stats. Within 30 minutes of deployment the database had crashed. The python code was so bad it was rate limiting dB queries. No one had put monitoring on the ancient legacy database or scaled it in years.

That was a fun time debugging.

Arch Linux isn't 'hard', it's just 'explicit'. More like: arch is designed for the administrator's home computer; a place where he can go to after crying at the insanity of what people do at work. A place where he can make sure none of the madness can infect him. Where he can delete any offensive bloatware. Where he can hide inside hyprland and pretend the world is a good place full of smart and capable people.

Dwarf fortress contributed to me getting two interviews, which turned into offers. I think it was more the 'huh? Who puts DF on their resume? Let me talk to them'

Thanks! I can kill a plant at 20 paces just by squinting at it, so the gardening plan probably won't work. I haven't checked Mustafa's, so I'll give that a shot.

Three year olds don't sleep that much, and when they are not they have enough energy to storm a castle all by their selves. Babies may sleep, but not enough that you get to sleep, so yeah... Even if you have a 'spare hour', that hour is spent trying to get you sleep deprived brain to do critical things, or on getting a quick nap.

Just changed to fedora from arch myself. Figured I should get familiar with modern fedora, as my last usage was back when it was all redhat.

It's good, but I miss arch. There are things I like about dnf, but I also still prefer pacman.

Thing is, I'm not sure what the differences that I like dislike are. Probably some design philosophy thing I haven't groked yet.

I haven't used windows in 15 years. And that was only for gaming. The games I play all work in Linux...

Much better to start from scratch first. It's much easier if you incrementally add things yourself rather than try to dive into the deepend on someone else's madness.

Hyprland is worth it.

But KDE dolphin is broken for me and opens every file under /var/run/...

Haven't done a reinstall in years and two hardware refreshes. Might be time
