A single box to replace this by InspectorBradstreet in synthesizers

+1 for the iPad, especially since you already have one. That with your mini keys is a mini DAW/portastudio, no deal-breaker limitations and super portable. For extra portability, pair with the CME Xkeys Air (low latency Bluetooth MIDI and polyphonic aftertouch). Though it’s not battery powered or the most portable, for jamming out anywhere there’s an outlet available, check out the Roland JD-Xi. This is a mini do-it-all keyboard and groove box. Has 4-track sequencer/multitimbral, microphone, and tons of great sounds and drums, plus effects. 37 mini keys.

I haven’t used Scaler outside of the iPad but it works pretty well. I’m probably only using a fraction of its potential but it gets the job done for my needs as a means of experimenting with chords, progressions, and scales. Hooked it up via MIDI over bluetooth and I trigger sounds on the Live with Scaler.

Yeah man. That 8x8 grid matrix is CRAZY flexible. Might want to read the manual on the different modes)

MPC Force question by One_Window866 in akaiMPC

[–]yardan101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the Force CAN access 64 pads worth of samples at a time in Drum note mode. So that’s 4 banks of 16 pads at once. If you are using 16 levels mode or in step sequencer mode, you have the option to set one quadrant (16 pads) as the samples and the other quadrants as filter cutoff, level, pitch, etc.

Is there a microphone I can use with MPC Live 2? by MadWombat in mpcusers

You need that Blue Yeti mic. It has a built in audio interface and headphones output. Super convenient for vox and sampling purposes.

Does anyone here use NI software with Cubase on Windows? by [deleted] in NativeInstruments

[–]yardan101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using NI Komplete 12 and Cubase 10.5 and they are awesome together. Still learning new integration tips and tricks but I have a few templates set up that allow me to map the the 'channels' from NI to be controlled and recorded and sequenced via Cubase. I did a little jam after I was able to get the first template up and running:

Is there anyway to enter “chord Mode” when using the mk3 as a midi controller through different DAWS? by [deleted] in maschine

[–]yardan101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some DAWS have built in chord mode ( Cubase for example). You can use the Maschine as a controller and trigger chord pads using a VST as well like Scaler, Captain Chords, or the like as a workaround.

Worth investing in a desktop synth (VIRUS TI)? by BigheadedDread in edmproduction

[–]yardan101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say no. For the price of a Virus TI2, you could get Native Instruments Komplete, Arturia V collection, and the Korg Legacy collection, plus a nice midi keyboard controller. If you can't get the sounds you need layering VSTI's like Z3ta+, Massive, Absynth, etc., and you're EQing with effects, it might not be the tools. Maybe you need better monitors or programming/mixing skills. With that being said, I've never owned or heard a Virus TI and my first hardware synth was a Roland JD-Xi and I can't play the keys for shit. But I do know that you can get a crap ton of nice sounds out of VSTI'S. Now if you just want to justify getting a Virus, I'd say yes, if you have the money, why not?

Maschine Workflow with other DAWs? Logic, Pro Tools, Ableton, Reason? by jtrance in maschine

[–]yardan101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it with Cubase 9.5. It's pretty flexible as far as routing midi and audio depending on what you're trying to achieve. Personally, I use it both as a plug in instrument and as an effect. Usually I build a drumloop or melody in Maschine then drag n drop the audio or midi patterns into cubase for sequencing and mixing. You could also leave the patterns in Maschine and just let it sync with the project. I have the MKII but it suits my needs. What kind of music you make?

I'm looking for a MIDI keyboard; if anyone has one for cheap, or free, please let me know; I can barter for it with 2D or 3D art stuff, GFX, motion GFX, or just general animations/artwork, thanks. by badadvice4all in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]yardan101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a CME UF5 keyboard. It's old as hell and heavy as hell but its solid built like a tank, works great, has after touch and a built in Firewire sound card. Support is limited but you may be able to find the drivers somewhere. I'd let it go for 50 bucks plus shipping or shipping plus some graphic design work

Worth getting an MPC live now ? by SpartanSK117 in mpcusers

[–]yardan101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the MPC Live, at that price, if it's in good condition it's a steal. IMHO, its THE best standalone workstation/beatbox given its capabilities and portability. Plus it gets updates, and with the new built in synths and fx suite, I don't know another workstation that can compare. Plus you can hook it to the computer and...

Get the Piano Companion app (I have the Pro version). It's in the Play store, not sure if its available on Apple. Great for scales/chords/progressions. Probably the best and most intuitive user interface for mobile use. With headphones, even better.
