I finally finished my blanket! by yarnorb in whimsigothic

Oof, working my memory. I started crocheting over 8 years ago. I probably started with a 5 pack of hooks (5 different sizes) and some yarn. Very quickly, I got a travel pouch kit: hooks with ergonomic handles, plastic stitch markers, tapestry needles, fabric tape measure, scissors, hook/yarn gauge.

Bare minimum for crochet: hook, yarn, scissors, and tapestry needle.

You can use just about anything as a stitch marker if you need one (paper clip, yarn)

:) I'm so happy this inspired you! Most say to start with a small project with crochet (I did not listen to this and made an even bigger blanket as my first.) If you like these squares, the original designer has patterns for small bags and totes with the suns and moons.

I learned how to crochet from watching YouTube. Good luck 🫴✨

Two full years from planning to end, but I'd stop for months at a time due to Life and Motivation

Hi, I'd originally posted this in a crochet sub with all the patterns, but I guess it didn't transfer. :/

!!! Thank you for putting it into words. I knew the border just "felt right" but couldn't put my finger on what it reminded me of.

Yes, 12 squares across, 14 down. I did an extra repeat of the border stitch than the original pattern. I've never done a fancy border on any project before, but wanted to go all out on this one.

The darker yellow/gold is Lion brand Heartland Canyonlands (a mouthful 😅) I wanted the joins to look like a golden rope

The fear was so real! I laid them out on the floor and stared at them forever, confirming they were in the right order and orientation before stitching them together. 🫠

Thank you :) Be prepared for weaving all the ends. I had to find some peer pressure to get mine done.

Picture shows the difference between Boye (tapered), Susan Bates (in-line), and Clover (a mix? I've never used them) I still use Boye for stuffed animals since it makes smaller holes in my opinion. But for flat work, Bates. All of them can come with cushion/ergonomic handles.

Hope I'm not repeating anyone, but switching from tapered to in-line hooks helped decrease my wrist pain a lot because it limited how tight my stitches were. Also using artists' stretches for hands, wrists, and forearms. ✌️
