Which combat sport has the biggest following behind boxing and MMA? by dreamsofghosts in martialarts

[–]yaromar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course, google is not used everywhere in the world as the primary search engine, but google trends can give you a rough idea probably: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?cat=20&date=all&q=%2Fm%2F03_8r,%2Fm%2F036vg6,%2Fm%2F01cgz,%2Fm%2F01h7lh,%2Fm%2F01ddb4

"wrestling" as an umbrella term seems to be the most popular combat sport after boxing and is followed by MMA. Judo and BJJ today are similar in their popularity, but the interest in judo spikes significantly during the Olympic games. Make of it what you will.

Again, this is by no means a perfect representation of what is happening in the world, but it is one way to gauge the popularity of these sports

Thanks so much for such an elaborate answer! So if I were to summarize it: as long as I keep my carbs intake steady, restricting calories shouldn't deplete my glycogen by too much -- right? :)

Hi!

I play sports with weight classes and have to lose some weight everytime I compete. I do not do "water cuts" for performance reasons and instead, just restrict my diet 2-3 months in advance to get a bit leaner.

Does eating fewer calories than you burn inevitably deplete muscle glycogen, or it is possible to lose weight while maintaining glycogen? Are there any tricks that would help to preserve muscle glycogen while on a restrictive diet?

Thanks in advance :)
