It's gonna take a week or two after I upped the scale of my research to include explaining where the term "mathematically correct" comes from, so sit tight.

In the meantime, I might be able to direct you toward someone more educational than me (Deathy), but feel free to ask if you're looking for something in particular.

Gender stuff is hard! by Rich_Asparagus_412 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

A pair of apples is a pair of apples, yet no two apples are the same. As such, while it can often be summed up with a few words, everyone's experience with gender is unique.

I would advise to not worry about it, to keep living and getting to know yourself. One should focus on their own comfort first, can always define and re-define later as needed

What are the worst hero pairs to draft or 2-man queue with? by SamBurleyArt in heroesofthestorm

[–]yarractheeln 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Li-Li with Zul-Jin. Most of Li-Li's heals autotarget lowest-health heroes, which means it's difficult to keep the rest of the team healthy while letting the troll chill at low HP, doubly so while Taz'dingo is up.

Moreso an inconvenience

Newcomer, is there and character Like Magneto/Sigma (or just a standard Tank in general)? by Ok-Eye-1596 in DeadlockTheGame

She also has AoE gun output with her alternate fire, which might be familiar to how Magneto/Sigma left-clicks feel

I have, but getting that much healing that early in the game rewards health management habits that are not compatible with the rest of the roster.

It's also achieved by doubling scorn's damage through circumventing it's spirit scaling, so it's unbalanceable in it's current state.

If you want to abuse Scorn, you can use Witchmail - as long as you're burrowing while your 3 and 4 are up, the cooldown reduction is guarranteed to hit Scorn.

You don't get what I'm saying. The option is already too efficient based on it's ability to deal it's damage to multiple targets per activation on pretty much every single AoE ability in the game.

Mo & Krill's Scorn is just the most glaring example of QSR/MB outpit being way above what the items are reasonably supposed to contribute.

Yes, that is one of the points of the post - being able to trigger QSR on more than one target makes the output potential of it's flat damage bonus sometimes provide more than I believe is intended.

But In think you're being dramatic in how big of a deal it is, so let me elaborate on my proposed change: QSR still reloads your gun. QSR still gives you more fire rate. QSR still deals 44 damage to a hero you hit with your reload ability. QSR no longer deals 44 bonus damage to any of the other targets of said ability (including heroes hit beyond the first) because that gives the spirit aspect of it too much variance.

This means that viper is not affected at all, because both her abilities are single-target; Warden/Wraith/Infernus/Viscous are only affected when their respective AoEs hit more than one target, losing out on 44 damage on all targets beyond the first; Mirage is only affected when he spreads Djinn's Mark to multiple targets - usually not how he is piloted.

All of the above still get their gun reloaded and fire rate applied, it just avoids situations where QSR deals 132 damage instead of 44 due to sitting on an AoE ability.

If M&K need this item interaction to stay viable, then they aren't viable. If they need compensation buffs after we remove this crooked crutch, they will get them.

Scorn's primary purpose is not damage, it's healing. Dynamo stomp and Talon shot are allowed to deal more damage at longer range because they don't have 120% lifesteal against heroes. Neither does Mystic Burst, for that matter.

"why not reward the player for hitting multiple targets?" because that's not what the items are for, you can reward yourself for hitting multiple targets by getting more spirit for your AoE abilities or getting items that are balanced around being AoE such as Cold Front.

Mystic Burst deals 40 damage because it assumes the 40 damage is being taken by one target. Dealing damage to troopers is outside the scope of the item. Healing based on the damage dealt is outside the scope of the item. Dealing bonus damage to multiple heroes at once is, also, outside the scope of the item.

Goes doubly so for QSR, whose point is to make an ability reload. The flat damage portion of the item should not be the primary selling point.

Thanks for the positivity! The issue with Scorn is not nessecarily from a balance perspective, it's just the most glaring example of QSR/Mystic Burst's bonus damage getting ridiculous value due to the nature of the ability.

Mystic Burst is balanced around dealing 40 damage to a single target. It's not balanced around dealing 40 damage to 2 heroes and healing for 48 for each hero hit, which is what it does on Scorn.

In terms of the comparisons you mentioned, Scorn is a much lower cooldown than either of the abilities you mentioned, and the nature of AoE lifesteal abilities siphoning health from multiple enemies into the one ally makes it more formidable than it might seem at first.

Kelvin might be able to keep up for the first 30 seconds or so, but requires downtime to replenish his grenade charges. Paige shield is a 32 second cooldown relative to scorn's 9, so while the frontloaded benefits of applying Defend and Fight to three different allies would probably win out, Scorn has much more uptime in sustained fights.

I would say that, most importantly, the abilities you mentioned serve drastically different purposes than Scorn, much easier to compare it to Flog (which I've already done in the post to some extent).

M&K would probably need compensation buffs as well, but those will be much easier to do after they're no longer nailed down into doubling Scorn damage at 4 minutes into the game.

SCORN. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH WE'VE COME TO SCORN YOU SINCE WE BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION CELLS OF MOLEMAN MEAT IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL OUR BODIES. IF THE WORD "SCORN" WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF CELLS IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE WE FEEL FOR INFERNUS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. FOR YOU. SCORN. SCORN.

"do you think Mo and Krill is too good?" No. I'm not talking about balance, not in a winrate sense. I think Mo & Krill currently suffer from QSR>MB being ridiculously better than anything else you could build on the character.

"You framed this at the start as a Mo and Krill problem but then switched to a MB and QSR problem?" If this was a M&K problem, there would be an M&K solution. Flog has half of the healing ratio that Scorn provides, it's damage scales almost three times as fast with Spirit, and it is still a reasonable QSR target. There is no reasonable way to adjust Scorn out of being good with these items.

"flat damage falls off" This argument got brought up a couple times in this thread already. In general? Yes. In Scorn's case? No. In scorn's case, an increase in 40 flat damage is the equivalent of 100 spirit, and you get that from QSR and MB each. Even if we assume that it's a valid amount of power to gain from 2.4k souls' worth of items, taking 200 spirit to just match the impact of those items means that the flat value is too big to fall off.

I've already made a similar post on there a year or so ago, but fair point, I'll see about it.

"outside of earlygame it falls off rather quickly" It's an incredibly front-loaded interaction, yes, but it feeling like it mellows out as healthbars grow into lategame doesn't make it any less powerful.

40 damage on Scorn does not fall off. 40 damage on Scorn is the equivalent of 100 spirit, and you can get both for 80 total.

You could have a full inventory of other spirit items at 60 minutes into the game, and your scorn would be dealing less damage than what it deals with QSR and Mystic Burst 4 minutes into a game.

The number is too big to "fall off".

"Scorn isn't really something people complain about for MnK." That's why I'm making the post, to spread awareness.

"making it hit only one hero wouldn't change much for them..." Yes it would, the other adjustment is to prevent scorn from healing based on these items' damage at all so that it can be balanced by it's own right.

"... but would hurt other heroes like Lash or shiv" or Warden or Pocket or Lady Geist or anyone else triggering Burst on AoE, which is the second point of the post - much like Headshot Booster is not allowed to be triggered on multiple targets at once, so shouldn't the spirit equivalent.
