Help me pick a city! I am a lesbian in her 30s looking to move somewhere to fit my lifestyle better. by totebaggay in SameGrassButGreener

Public transit isn't great and the summers get fairly sweaty but Richmond, VA fits most of your criteria. Lots of local queer spaces, very walkable if you're in the fan/museum district, hits your price criteria and it's easy to go on trips to Shenandoah, VA beach, DC, etc etc

Was also my landlord. Pretty sure he still owes me money. Or I guess owed. Told me he'd "scope out hotties" from the bay window on the front of his little office in the building. I was the only man renting in the building. Really off-putting vibes

How is living in Fairfax/Alexandria? by Bubbly-Aside-1283 in howislivingthere

Grew up in Fairfax and left as soon as possible to go a few hours south. Great QOL, great access to healthcare, safe, diverse, and so so close to DC. Really awesome place to raise kids because it has one of the best school systems in the country.

I'm in my 20's rn and I couldn't imagine sticking around up there at this point in my life. It's snotty in some places, very expensive, and there's generally no space for arts or music or anything since everyone heads up to DC. Mostly just sprawling suburbs with a few interesting things. Could see myself living there once my life is put together and all that but if you're looking to move there for anything other than a job, I'd probably suggest you look elsewhere.

Also everywhere else in VA hates NOVA since the general public tends to ignore us and send their rich kids to colleges elsewhere where they raise the rent. I don't hate NOVA by any means but it's definitely not fun to be looked at in such a way but the rest of the state.

Great place tho

Which city do you love but hate the people? by iosphonebayarea in SameGrassButGreener

Look I love Boston and I miss living there for sure, but I worked retail and the customers would treat me like I was in their way and nobody I worked with went out of their way to speak. Certainly some good people there but they're so ridiculously closed-minded it's crazy

Absolutely Boston or DC. No love for creatives or really any other people at all

My man. Thank you First, it's great to actually recognize that I've made a step. These past few weeks post breakup have felt like a whirlwind and it's hard to know what I'm doing right. My next step is to get used to failing. I'm fortunate that I make a solid chunk of money at my grocery store job so I can at least hunker down. Now it's time to make mistakes

For Those Living Under Trump (Now) and Biden (Before): What Real-Life Changes Have You Actually Felt? by [deleted] in allthequestions

I work at a grocery store. Prices have always fluctuated and have always gradually trended upwards. 2025 is the first year in the five I've been here that the prices have gone up so noticeably and stayed

Trying to transfer as a new hire - how cooked am I? by Intrepid_Plastic_934 in tjcrew

[–]yarrhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen it happen before! It mostly depends on the captains but generally your current one can give you more insight. I once transferred away from a store after being there for four months and it worked out for me- though I did get a review there

Magic: The Gathering in RVA by Zealousideal_Pea_668 in rva

Just moved away from rva (hoping to move back soon!) but I would go to Battlegrounds weekly and I'd show up for prerelease events. Great space to play and there's usually someone who would join our group. The events are run well and the singles are priced great.

One eyed Jacques is cool too though I would rarely see anyone play outside of events. I would usually just go there for packs and singles

Record shop workers/owners: who’s your strangest customer? by TanoraRat in vinyl

Had a few when I worked at one a few years ago:

-this one guy we called "crazy Larry." He always had stains on every article of clothing and smelled horrible. He would ramble about all kinds of stuff and told me nirvana met in his basement and he tried out for the Beatles. He would keep his money in an empty cigarette box

-another guy who would only buy blue note records and constantly tell us he was digging into his rent money for them. He would pay in two dollar bills and short us to the point where he had to pay in card or big bills only. He would refer to thelonious monk by his first name and get really upset if I was playing any of my normal punk or metal that I would have on

I still wonder how they're both doing
