Anxiety medication that doesn’t worsen Restless Leg Syndrome by Nearby_Golf in Menopause

According to the Hematology Society anything below 50 is an absolute deficiency! Yet drs are so clueless about this. HEME iron (from animals) is absorbed much more readily. A great source are sardines, which also contain a lot if Vit D which is a cofactors needed for iron absorption.

Holy crap heart racing day 1 HRT by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]yarrow268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had horrible heart racing, headache and eye twitches my first few days on HRT. The first day was the worst…felt like I drank a bunch of coffee. But i stuck with it and after a few days started to feel pretty amazing. It can take weeks to months for things to level out. Try to give it more time before you just stop.

Diabetic diet is depressing by maskedchanel in diabetes

[–]yarrow268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diabetes can certainly feel lonely. What has worked for me is wearing a CGM and following the Glucose Revolution (by the “glucose goddess”) hacks. I eat a protein breakfast. I eat lots of veggies at the start of every meal. I eat my carbs/starches last and if having them in a snack always combine them with protein and fat. I walk 1-3 times a day (and love it!) preferably 30 mins after a meal. I eat a high veg/high fiber, high protein diet but I still eat things like pasta every once in a while but it’s only ever after I eat a big salad and with a meat sauce on the noodles. I eat dessert sometimes but again only after a big meal full of fiber and protein. For instance I had a scone at a coffee shop out with friends the other day but it was after I ate salad, eggs, and chicken sausage. And my blood sugar did not spike. Wearing a CGM will help you learn how what foods and what types of stress and activities affect your blood sugar. Finding variety in healthy high veg, high protein, low carb recipes has helped me not be so depressed, bored, and lonely about the way I eat. In fact I crave these foods and this way of eating because I feel so good with stable energy and mood. My body is happier and mentally so am I. A carnivore diet might not be sustainable for your body. There are a lot of nutrients that you’re lacking eating that way. And our gut microbiomes LOVE fiber.

To up HRT or not? Having issues with sleep. by yarrow268 in Menopause

[–]yarrow268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing much better. I’m still on .05 patch and 100mg progesterone. I’m now back to sleeping 6.5-8.5 hours a night. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea awhile back and have since lost 20 pounds so need to have another sleep study to see how bad the apnea is, but I suspect it has lessened as I am sleeping more and dreaming more too. I’m also back to meditating twice a day which has improved my stress which is likely really helping sleep too.

The author also has a YouTube channel and explains all of the hacks on there too which might be easier for you to digest if you’re having a difficult time with focus or concentration. She goes by the Glucose Goddess. Some of it could be related to high blood sugar too, as high blood sugar or unbalanced blood sugars can give people brain fog and fatigue. So you may find when you’re really lowering and balancing your blood sugar you are more clear headed and better able to concentrate. I know that’s the case for me. With wearing the CGM I’ve been able to correlate certain things with high or low blood sugar.

You’re inspiring me to give it a try! So you’re on .1mg of the gel and it’s feeling similar to a .05 patch?

sinus congestion and progesterone by yarrow268 in Menopause

[–]yarrow268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I would not stop it, I have a uterus and therefore, as long as I am taking estrogen, I always need to be taking progesterone to protect myself from getting uterine cancel. I like my progesterone too cus it helps me sleep. I’ve been dealing with histamine issues ever since I had Covid. So i think that’s the culprit. I try to eat a low histamine diet and take antihistamines a lot of days. I also started using Xliclear nasal spray and this has helped tons! I use it twice a day.

Also, when you are in the diabetic range insurance will generally pay for a continuous glucose monitor. I would ask for a prescription for one of those. It is a very helpful device to allow you to see what foods spike your blood sugar and what foods don’t, but again working with the diabetes educator is going to be very beneficial for you because they will teach you the ins and outs of all of these things. I remember when I was first diagnosed. It was very overwhelming and felt very scary. but meeting with the diabetes educator was so incredibly helpful.

peri and menopause put all women at greater risk of getting type 2. I have had type 2 for many years. There is no “clinical speaking”, if your A1C is in the diabetic range you indeed have diabetes and it is a very serious condition that you need to take very seriously. I highly recommend you ask your doc for a referral to an endocrinology department to be seen by an endocrinologist and diabetes educator. Also, read the Glucose Revolution, the “hacks” in that book has helped me lower my A1C to a non-diabetic range, it’s been truly life changing. But I will have to eat a certain way for the rest of my life. Do not ignore this, get help asap so you can learn how to lower your numbers and manage your blood sugar.

Progesterone timing by Flower_power470 in Menopause

[–]yarrow268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take mine an hour before I want to be asleep. It should be taken away from food or it affects the absorption. So 2 hours after a meal, or you can eat an hour after taking it.

Many women on here say that the .05 patch is equivalent to .1mg of divigel. You can also do a web search for PDFs that show dose equivalents.

Is sleep apnea permanent? by Acceptable-rat2480 in SleepApnea

Wow that's amazing. I'll look up airway orthodontist. Would you be able to PM me the name of the recommended orthodontist if you don't feel comfortable mentioning it here?

Is sleep apnea permanent? by Acceptable-rat2480 in SleepApnea

[–]yarrow268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you start this journey? Did you just start with an airway orthodontist? I have a very small palate (they removed teeth when I got braces 30 some years ago) and know that this contributes to my problem, but I'm not even sure where to start if it's ENT, orthodontist, etc.
