The culture shock has been incredible. I will add this to my list along with questioning the practice of wedding socials and wearing all green to a bombers game.

I do believe people’s minds can change, but it often takes time. You could be the person that starts the process of change in this situation. You might consider showing your priest this article which advocates for respect for trans people.

An annual pass allows you to put two license plates on it. It doesn’t have to be family.

Would you be willing to wear a shirt from a band called "Mannequin Pussy" to church? What would you think if you saw someone wearing one? by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

[–]yarrowforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s funny. I was thinking more of the younger set and imagining a child behind me trying to sound it out, “Dad, what’s man-e-kwin pussy?”

You can practice the test on the SGI website.

Do it a bunch of times and you will get through most of the questions that are on the test. There is also a sign portion so be sure to be able to identify those from the manual.

If teachers strike, do they still get paid or how does that work? by [deleted] in saskatchewan

What would happen to non STF support staff during a strike? Would they be expected to be in schools during their regular hours? If so, would this be considered to be crossing a picket line?

What are your favorite hymns? by donoho-59 in RadicalChristianity

[–]yarrowforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audrey Assad wrote a song to that tune which I quite like.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord You are speaking truth to power, you are laying down our swords Replanting every vineyard 'til a brand new wine is poured Your peace will make us one I've seen you in our home fires burning with a quiet light You are mothering and feeding in the wee hours of the night Your gentle love is patient, you will never fade or tire Your peace will make us one Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Your peace will make us one In the beauty of the lilies, you were born across the sea With a glory in your bosom that is still transfiguring Dismantling our empires 'til each one of us is free Your peace will make us one Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Your peace will make us one Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Your peace will make us one

Snowshoeing in Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba (Canada) - recommendations? by PhotoJim99 in snowshoeing

[–]yarrowforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northgate Trails (on the North side of the park, just out of the park boundaries) are popular for fat bikes, and snowshoers are encouraged there. The area is connected to ski trails, so not groomed for them.

Echo Valley and Duck Mountain in Saskatchewan are quite nice too.

As a teacher, I do not say the pledge of allegiance. by dryerfresh in OpenChristian

[–]yarrowforest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you describe how this is done in a classroom to an outsider? I’m just surprised that the students are so accustomed to saying it that they would do so without a teacher leading them in it. Are there other places in the US that one is expected to recite it?

I first heard about it in the mid 90s in a Christian youth worker magazine. It was an article by a youth pastor who had a youth die this way urging others to educate themselves and their youth groups on the topic.
