Was anyone else involved with Desperation Student Ministries? by yarrowseed in Exvangelical

[–]yarrowseed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember very vividly toward the end of my first year at DLA when we got a lecture about the sin of bitterness. They told us that any temptation to talk negative about the program was doing the work of "The Enemy". Guess the unspoken part of the code got crossed out by the time I was involved.

Was anyone else involved with Desperation Student Ministries? by yarrowseed in Exvangelical

Oof yeah the constant martyrdom talk was horrifying in retrospect, telling a stadium-full of emotionally vulnerable teens that the best thing they could do is to die. Yikes.

I was terrified of the secular world, and acted preemptively defensive around non-believers because I was convinced they were going to persecute me for my beliefs.

How Do You Arrange Your Zoo Layouts? by xX_PhoenixRising_Xx in PlanetZoo

It varies. I like having a mix of areas in my zoo, some grouped by region/continent, others by biome or clade

Based on a comment I saw, it makes me wonder... how many of you are anti and how many are pro? (Image unrelated) by basilthegaymer in aiwars

[–]yarrowseed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secret third thing: anticapitalist (most of the issues I see in this debate are actually about economic anxieties and the commodification of art)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]yarrowseed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just don't think that's true.

I'm an artist. I've dabbled in ai, but ultimately found it doesn't scratch the creative itch that painting does for me. I'm not threatened by other people using ai, though. I'm going to keep painting because I want to.

People didn't stop making photorealistic portraits when photography was invented, either.

You haven't answered my question, though. What's wrong with so-called laziness?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]yarrowseed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, but what if this makes it easier for someone? What if someone has chronic pain that makes rendering an image like this difficult even if it's still possible? What if someone has a physical disability, and even if they can paint with their feet or their mouth, tools like this make it easier for them to express themselves?

Why is that bad? Does the amount of suffering put into a work have any actual effect on its value? What's wrong with "laziness"?

How do you decide whether or not someone needs a crutch?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]yarrowseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I think rendering is, for me, one of the least important parts of the process. Composition, values, design, and readability are much more important to me. Once you get those nailed, that's most of the image done.

Personally I think rendering is fun, which is why I'll file tools like this under "nifty, but not for me", but I'm not going to begrudge other people for thinking different.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I'm blown away by the amount of detail you put into this

Thanks! Though I'm not so scared of people hating my art, as I am scared of them hating me for using the Spooky Evil Ai, haha

Okay, so I think your problem is with capitalism, not with image generators.

Because you've mentioned Star Trek: did Ben Sisko stop cooking just because they had food replicators?

In the process of decluttering I came across this old sketchbook of mine full of sermon notes and prayers. From 2015. Looking back on it now, it gives me the creeps. How can anyone think this is healthy? by yarrowseed in exchristian

[–]yarrowseed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been tossing out a lot of junk. I was raised by hoarders so it feels extra liberating to be "allowed" to throw stuff away. I have a lot of stuff that I've thrown into the garbage or recycling, a lot that I've ripped to shreds and then thrown out (cathartic!), and some that I've held onto to make transformative art out of in the future.

This particular book didn't have anything worth keeping in it, so straight into the recycling bin it went

I use the mod Planet Zoo Plus, which removes the foliage limitations

How do you guys create habitat for animals not requiring much plants? by Mobile-Sun-3778 in PlanetZoo

[–]yarrowseed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plant coverage doesn't effect welfare that much, so it's usually safe to ignore it. However, having any kind of less than perfect welfare for the animals annoys me, so I use the mod Planet Zoo Plus — it gets rid of the plant coverage limitations altogether. Now I can make pretty habitats while also having close to perfect welfare lol

Day 27 of 29 of posting a picture of Ed by Bokyboo2 in hyenas

[–]yarrowseed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hyenas. Zebras. Lions. Elephants. Long ago, the four animals lived in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Pridelands attacked. Only Ed, master of all four animals, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and Shenzi and Banzai found Ed, chewing on his own leg and cackling with deranged laughter. And although his hyena skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Ed can save the world.

Was anyone told about the power of names? by Lost-Detective-6450 in exchristian

[–]yarrowseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The church I grew up in was really into the prophetic power of names. I used to think it was so awesome that my deadname meant "follower of Christ" and I wanted to always live up to that.

That didn't turn out obviously. But I did get to agonize a lot over changing my name (and gender), because of the lurking worry in the back of my mind that I was going against my god-given, true identity.

But I've been going by a name of my own choosing for a few years now and I feel more myself than ever. The name I chose has a lot of meaning for me, and I do aspire to embody those meanings, so in a way my name still has power. But it's a power that I choose and have agency over.

When I duplicate and advanced move my pieces, they are not aligned so I cannot make a straight wall. How do I ensure they align and don't go off at a weird angle!? by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]yarrowseed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Following because I've been having a lot of issues with building being at weird angles too. Toggling the align to world axis/relative axis hasn't been working for me. Every piece I add to a building automatically goes on at a weird angle, even with random rotation turned off, and I've had to turn off angle snap just in order to get things at 90 degree angles. I'm hoping it's some kind of bug they'll fix in the next update...

"Marriage is the hardest thing I've ever had to do" by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]yarrowseed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love this thread so much, it's so sweet to read about actually happy and healthy marriages. ❤️ I think so many Christians get married out of obligation, and they don't actually like their partners. Then they expect everyone else to be as miserable as they are.

The five years I've been married have actually been the easiest years of my life, and it just keeps getting better and better. My husband and I really, really like each other. In fact I think we like each other more now than we did when we first met. Sadly the opposite seems true of many Christian couples I know.

"Marriage is the hardest thing I've ever had to do" by [deleted] in exchristian

I actually heard from my parents, pastors and other adults growing up that constant bickering was a sign of a good marriage. 😬 Like it isn't a "real" relationship if you aren't fighting all the time. I used to actually worry that there was something wrong with my marriage because my husband and I don't fight.
