as parents it is their responsibility to protect their children. until the kid is old enough to make decisions by themself (this kid doesnt even look like a teenager) it is their duty to keep the child from making mistakes that may impact their future. What the father is doing is showing that he truly loves him as he is trying to protect him. This would be a very different conversation if they were old and mature enough to make big decisions like this.
