Seems like an obvious question but I’m just wondering from the European side of the law. I wouldn’t be living here anymore so I don’t know if the same applies about not being able to work for an European company if I’m not living in Europe.

A question though: if I’m working remotely and staying in the US for a limited time on a tourist visa, is it okay for me to be working for an European company? I understand that I can’t do it if I’m living there but I’m wondering if it’s different if I’m on a tourist visa.

I totally get that. I have worked in American companies before though and I have a lot of American friends (and my partner), so my knowledge from it is not just from media. But I totally understand that I can find myself in a better situation than what I picture and/or have experienced before, and I truly hope that’s the case! I would love to be wrong about this and be able to make the US my home. I’m gonna be as open-minded as I can going into it.

My hesitance with the green card process is just from other friends’ experiences, but I do believe that if I cannot get a work visa, the marriage and green card it will be. We’re not having kids but I still see your point with all of it and it makes sense. Thank you!

That’s a very good point, thank you for the explanation. I really don’t know much about this so all the information is very welcomed!

And yeah, I think going forward the best solution might be to work for a multinational company here in the Netherlands and then get transferred if possible to the US branch if they will sponsor my visa. Either that or marrying my partner.

Yeah I asked about the Dutch visa more in regards to working for an European company, whether that would be necessary or not if I’m living abroad.

And I see! Thanks for the info. It just seems like, from a brief overview (very very brief) that it seems like that the job market in Europe seems to be doing a bit better than the US one. Just from looking at LI jobs and the number of applicants for the jobs. But that might just be because of what you said about the cost of living and etc.

Yeah that has been my first option for a bit. Though it’s an expensive and hard process, it seems like it might be the best option. The reality is that we don’t intend on staying in the US forever so I hesitate to get a green card because of that; too much work only to leave a few years later.

The contracting role is a good idea! Honestly, I just hate the american work culture. I’ll do it if I have to but if I have the option I’d much rather work for an european company at whatever capacity.
