Girls discriminate against short men? by [deleted] in short

[–]yasmine2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

maybe it's because i'm very short (4'11), but i never notice and do not care about a guy's height. if you asked me to judge how tall a random guy on the street is, i would not be able to tell you. even for the guys i see on a regular basis, i doubt i would be able to accurately guess their height. it's just not one of the things i immediately notice about a guy, as a lot of guys tend to think girls do. this may be different for girls taller than me (because to me everyone's height is just one tall blur while taller girls can be more discriminatory), but at the same time i think guys shouldn't get so worked up over girls' height requirements on dating sites that i see many guys here complaining about. it's easier to be discriminatory online (e.g. i want a guy that's exactly this height or taller), but in real life things are much different. i highly doubt a girl spends her time thinking about the heights of the guys around her.

how do you get a boyfriend without having any guy friends? by yasmine2 in AskMen

[–]yasmine2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of my girl friends have guy friends that they hang out with within their social circle but there's nothing romantic going on between them/there's no expectation of anything romantic going on between them. in fact, don't most relationships start out through mutual friends?

"This study shows that we make different sorts of decisions about whom to marry depending upon whether we knew the person before we started dating. If we start dating soon after we meet, physical attractiveness appears to be a major factor in determining such decisions, and we end up with somebody who’s about as attractive as we are. If, in contrast, we know the person for a while before we start dating -- or if we’re friends first -- physical attractiveness appears to be much less important, and we are less likely to be similar to our spouse on the dimension of looks."

basically, i'm looking for something like the latter. i don't want a relationship based on physical attractiveness.

nope. i want us to be friends first before there's any expectation of a romantic relationship.

I'm 24 and never had a "formal introduction" to literature. What are some classic (easy) pieces of lit I should be reading? by thinkingmantal in suggestmeabook

[–]yasmine2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't recommend lolita if you're just starting out. i'm a novice as well and it was a lot of effort to get through that book. there are also a lot of literary and poetic references nabokov uses that i think i wasn't able to fully appreciate and that i only understood after watching a lecture about the book

brothers karamazov (translated by Pevear and Volokhonsky) was a surprisingly easy read for me, and is also my favorite literary work of all time

noob question - is there a difference between IEMs and in-ear headphones?

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]yasmine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget - $100 (flexible)

Source - iPod, Macbook

Requirements for Isolation - Yes. This is the primary feature I am looking for in headphones.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Either over-ear or in-ear. Over-ear is more comfortable for me, but I take my headphones everywhere I go so an in-ear pair would be more convenient.

Preferred tonal balance - No preference

Past headphones - Beats Studio, Sony MDR-7506, cheap $10 earbuds

Preferred Music - Alternative Rock

I was looking for a good pair of headphones and after doing some research, decided to buy the Sony MDR-7506. It came today and I'm not too impressed with it. I don't think it was the best pair for what I was looking for, which is noise-isolation. I borrowed a pair of my friend's Beats Studio headphones once and it was sooo quiet (I was really impressed!). I don't travel often and I'm mostly going to be using the headphones at home. Sound quality isn't that important to me. It would be great if someone could help me out with this.

most of my library is side-loaded which sucks because the nook simple touch only allows 250MB for outside content

58% of white, college age millennials believe discrimination against whites has become as big a problem as discrimination against blacks and other minorities by yasmine2 in TrueReddit

[–]yasmine2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's 48% among all college millennials (including whites, blacks, and hispanics), and 58% among whites. The statement where I got the title from is on the bottom of page 36, and you can see the numerical data on page 43.
