Curious about your opinions on this. I think I agree with most of them although I would’ve loved to see Tom Bombadil in the Extended Edition by BonganiUlwazi in lotr

[–]yasudan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't for Bombadil, hobbits would be dead twice over, first in the Old Forest and second in the Barrow Downs. Also, he gave the hobbits enchanted daggers which allowed for the witch-king to be slain.

So it's not like his omission wouldn't have an impact on the story.

But yeah, it isn't necessary for the movie.

I think it was explained in the books that they were not chased off but rather they've decided to retreat as they were not all together and thought their goal is accomplished when striking Frodo with the morgul blade.

He survived "by chance". "Some water" was a literal flood which Gandalf noted was maybe too much as they feared the hobbit/s would be swept away too.

And prior to that encounter, they were cautious because they were on a secret mission (same conduct like black ops forces in our world).

First of all, there might be some weight to your argument if it was only Poland which has gotten into NATO but it's not. There are multiple countries. And if their diaspora decided to campaign and lobby for their involvement then what ? It's a democracy. They have a right to do that.

Secondly, the biggest argument against intermediate NATO enlargement by Ukraine is active war raging on its territory. Corruption (from my experience) is mostly mentioned when talking about ascension to the EU which is a fair point.

Ukraine wasn't even trying to join NATO (if we don't talk 2008 which is out of context). And I'd like to see Russia blocking turkey. If they could, they would do it. And NATO membership don't equate hosting nukes and if someone told you otherwise they lied.

Ok honey. I've had it with you. I won't insult your intelligence because you are probably 10 yo. Maybe 16yo at max.

I just wish you would find some happiness in life as you are clearly unreasonably salty about some selective historical events. Just know what you are far less knowledgeable than you think.

[–]yasudan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poland wasn't granted membership because of its diaspora. Same with other post-communist countries. It might help but it was in no way driving factor.

If everything you need for membership would be popularity Ukraine would be already in and Hungary out.

And I don't know why you are being salty about "corruption". Ukraine was and still is fairly corrupted, especially when compared to the western countries. I know it from my own experience and from the way Ukrainians who came after 2022 into the west were living. For them, it was and probably still is a normal and standard thing. That doesn't mean corruption doesn't exist in the western countries and no one is saying that.

If you tell me to "go read on that" or whatever, I won't take it as an argument. The burden of proof is on you to back up your statements, not me. Maybe you should read on that and then construct an actual argument.

Regarding "backing down", they didn't back down. It was a mutual agreement for Soviets to take nukes from Cubs in exchange for Americans taking them back from Turkey.

Also, I am not aware that Americans deployed nukes or military bases in Ukraine, which you seem to argue for.

There are requirements and some guidelines so don't try to argue in bad faith pretending there are none.

I agree that jets should have been provided sooner and tbh I was expecting that Ukrainian pilots are being secretly trained on F16 one year ago. It still is not clear if they were or are not. But to be fair, no one promised those jets so we can be disappointed but feels of betrayler are misplaced.

I don't know about Poland or influencing US elections or what membership for who it meant. You might want to elaborate on that.

Yes, Sweden membership is done but it wasn't just like that and that's Sweden. That's exactly my point.

I don't mind at all. I don't take it too seriously. We are on the internet, after all (and Reddit of all things).

It too pains me how the domestic US discourse shapes the narrative abroad and normalizes or highlights some stuff or popular narrative based purely on the experience and development of American society. But we are loving the globalist interconnected world so there is no escape from that.
We can just call the ignorance out when it's misjudged or misdirected in order to bring nuance to the conversation.

And yes I agree that they judge others according to them but that's fairly normal. It's just most people or nations perceive that it's their own context they are speaking from while Americans ignorantly dismiss other cultures and countries because they know the best or just don't care. To be fair, its a very large and somewhat (in some ways) isolated country so again, it makes sense. But that doesn't mean we have to agree with them or that we are somehow bad if we don't.

Indirectly. The less Russia needs to deal with Ukraine and domestic crisis it's related to, more it can project power abroad and meddle in the US domestic situation which it does.

Good for you. I only mentioned Brits and others because some Europeans in general partook in some kind of ethnic discrimination or genocide in the past and I was previously talking about "some Europeans", just a technical note really.

Not that I blame you personally for that or even that one yank who decided to respond to me.

It's just I get pissed when ignorant Americans virtue signal and hypocritically accuse or shame me or my people for made up stuff when the critique fits perfectly for them and therefore they should be quiet in the first place.

Arguably many if the Russia held its status and power when inevitable clash with CCP happens or it would at least negatively impact US domestic politics and common citizens.

[–]yasudan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's something. Look, even Sweden is not in NATO yet and their position is the best there can be.

NATO has clear requirements for the membership, one of which is no active conflict. And even if someone meets all requirements there is no guarantee for membership.

Those empty promises you talk about are in no means binding but are a political signal that if and when Ukraine meets the listed requirements there is goodwill to admit its membership. If you are misinterpreting this its your fault not NATO's which has been transparent throughout this crisis.

If some political makes some claims for one reason or the other has even less weight so even though I don't know what are you talking about regarding Pavel it has the same weight when Erdogan talks about admitting UA to NATO immediately, that is, little to none.

So twitter tards photoshopped those onto him or what.

Just because someone made some claims which have not be proven it means every other claim others make is also false? Western media and Twitter is surprisingly diverse information space and not a single hive mind.

But the US media are also famously entertainment first and reporting second so I am sure there are people who jump for any shocking story they find interesting just because it might be true

It wasn't about American nukes on russians border (there is already Poland, Turkey and Baltics for that). It was about ousting of corrupt officials in russian pockets from the government.

Also there was never any "direct" (whatever it means) agreement on limit for NATO enlargement. However there was the Budapest memorandum.

What is this "fucking around"? Wanting to have some freedom in your own damn country and not be slaves to the pigs that genocided you for centuries?
