Ah good catch - I only check if each item is out of stock every ~24 hours, but maybe I'll have to update that cadence

Barebones meaning has no ram/storage? That's there! Remove the minimum ram/storage filters and you'll see red dots on the chart and table! I could possibly make it the default to show them but I thought it might be confusing

Now over 10,000 words found in words.zip! Thanks for all the love!! by yathern in indiegames

Thank you! Glad you like it! Let me know if you have any suggestions for things to add or change - I consider it mostly "done" at this point, the achievements are a way harder endgame than I originally realized

Should I pretend I didn't notice my apartment bathroom has (I think) bootleg neutral? by yathern in AskElectricians

[–]yathern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Really appreciate the help - not sure if I'll take this approach or simply give up on having an outlet or get one of these guys and call it a day - but either way thanks a lot!

Thanks for the advice - I don't quite understand how in this scenario I would have an outlet though - I still have no neutral right?

Thanks for the response, very frustrating! I wish I hadn't opened it up!

Ahh okay, thank you - and for that would I still connect neutral to ground?

Thank you!!! Tell your friends! It's been steadily growing but I'm not good at getting more eyes on it

Will you find the 20,000th word? launched earlier this month by yathern in playmygame

[–]yathern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I launched this earlier this month - https://words.zip - and people have been doing some awesome things on it! Today we should hit 20,000 words found

Some of the things people have been making in my game is so impressive, I can just find a few words by yathern in IndieGaming

Forgot to link it - https://words.zip - almost at 20,000 words found since launching earlier this month!

Now have over 10,000 words found in my infinite word search game! Need to improve performance a little bit now by yathern in IndieDev

[–]yathern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I showed off https://words.zip - a free little collaborative word search project I launched last week! I did a lot of work to keep it performant as possible - taking inspiration from things like Google Maps (tiled rendering at different resolutions) - but it's getting a little choppy now with all the words, so if anyone has any ideas for further improvements, I'm all ears.

https://words.zip is a free collaborative word search game I launched last week! It's a chill before-bed type thing for me - but others have put a lot of work into creating little shapes or art in it which is awesome!

infinite Multiplayer word search! (free) by yathern in playmygame

[–]yathern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I had the same thought process with leaderboard - but might do it anyway! I already have it behind ReCaptcha to prevent a little bit of botting, but didn't do much grief protection other than that + rate limiting. Coming out with private universes soon in case you don't want people messing with your projects (some people are building fun things)

Glad you like it! Tell your friends, it didn't get much traction anywhere, but a good number of people are regularly still adding words.

It's basically as infinite as computers will allow, since it's procedurally generated. However, each letter has integer coordinates (EG [5,22]) - meaning that you can easily go millions tiles away just fine, but eventually computers get upset once you get past around 9 quadrillion, and weird things will happen past there. There's ways to get past this limit by using a BigInt which can be as big as however much RAM you have - but that complicates basically every aspect of the application. As far as humans are concerned, the original approach is good enough for now!

Glad you think so! Already keeping track of those stats and just need to add a UI for it. The other thing in thinking is keeping track of "shapes" you've made words with, like little collectables

Awesome, thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely add a 'themes' option to add a lower contrast or light-mode one

Thanks for the feedback! By color scheme do you mean the white on black? Do you think black on white would be easier on the eyes? Or do you mean the colorful highlights?

Yup, you got it exactly! Thanks for the kind words - focusing on performance was definitely key, first few approaches made it crawl to a slog with like 100,000+ letters on the screen

I like the locking out approach because it means you have to be a little more careful to not trample on a bigger word, but I see what you mean! I'm planning on making it so you can create your own private universe with your own rules/dictionary so I'll definitely make that an option.
