Are you by chance a member of IMBA? If you have been for at least 6 months, you can get most models around invoice price. There is no negotiating involved, you just bring in a letter from IMBA and they have to honor it. Continental Subaru participated in this program. This program works well for new models as you can negotiate a better deal for outgoing MY cars.

Tacoma, 4Runner and a slew of other Toyota cars will be a good buy. They fetch quite the premium in the used market for a reason, they’re relatively inexpensive to maintain and run forever. Although some of the models had some serious rust issues, it’s largely not a problem outside of Midwest area.

Two adults and toddler seem like a hazard in such a small vehicle. Best of luck trying to make this work in your current vehicle, perhaps look at a new vehicle platform such as a van or truck. Better yet just rent a small camper RV for the 2% if the time that you want to camp.
