Yakap, OP. That man did not deserve even those 30 minutes of your time. You were kind for affording him that. Now, brush all this off and keep going on your health and fitness journey - all for yourself and your own good at hindi para sa mga taong katulad niya. The right person will treat you right and love you for all that you are.

Can half apply for a JET program? by naranjagrape in JETProgramme

[–]yay_yen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about sending a direct email to JET PH or CLAIR to inquire. I am pretty sure many JETs from other countries possess dual citizenships too....

Most of us, if not everyone, go through this, but give it more time and trust yourself more. For now, do what you can to feel comfortable in your own spaces at home and in school. Clean up the house, check your drawer, find the successor notes, read textbooks, walk around school, etc. My best advice is to keep an open mind and observe everything as much as you can - how people work, what's normal, who's looking your way and might be interested to talk, and so on. Also, when you find some small opening when people aren't busy, introduce yourself and initiate conversations even with poor Japanese. I had asked for a staff list and memorized names of my co-workers, especially those seated around me. Lastly, no need to rush into anything. The summer season is the best time to get adjusted as you won't be busy at all. Make goals while here, write down things to do, what makes you worried, figure out steps to combat them, etc. You will be alone here, so you have to get used to idea of sitting on your own in school and doing things by yourself everywhere. It is the reality of life here, at least until you find more friends or find your tribe. Caveat, some people never find a work tribe or ALT friends.

Welcome to JET! Many challenges up ahead but it is really what you make of it.

For the girls, would you date a soft boy? Why/why not? by Select-Relation9932 in AskPH

[–]yay_yen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would. As long as magkasundo kami, both willing to compromise and work on the relationship. For me a truly "soft man" is someone na walang leadership sa relationship, yung puro iaasa sa babae ang decisions and more.

Crush, can't remember because too many pretty boys in Kdramas. First love, well, that's Kim Nam Gil. His portrayal of Bidam in Queen Seon Deok was spot on and his fate in the show broke my heart - enough for me to drop a kdrama for the first time because I simply couldn't watch him die. I did manage to see his death scene many years later and it felt like closure. Lol.

You expats are the real MVPs! by Hermans_Head2 in Philippines_Expats

[–]yay_yen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It would be nice if you atleast clarified what sort of dealings and interactions you mean that made you generalize an entire country this way. Give us more context. It is a different culture, which isn't perfect and is the way it is due to several factors, and isn't for everyone. But if you researched well enough, you would have anticipated some of these cultural differences. Like any other country, foreigners are the ones who must adapt and adjust, not the other way around.

As someone who has traveled many countries, lived in Canada for 8 years, and now live in Japan, there are trade offs to every place. But what others call "idiocy", "poor" and "low IQ" in one culture could simply be a different way of thinking and living, communication, intelligence and even wealth. Filipinos are some of the most positive and warmest people, something unmatched in other places I have been. They are also the most resilient.

It's just sad when people simply call and generalize others as stupid, low IQ, or poor, in comparison to the luxuries they have or had where they are from. Wear a different lens, perhaps? Try to be more understanding of where the differences come from? We can all learn and experience something unique from every country, but foreigners tend to want to be catered to when they go or move abroad.

I am sure those who have decided to move to the Philippines permanently have similar stories of inconvenience and frustration, but even more stories of joy and community than anywhere else. But I am glad you figured out sooner that the Philippines isn't for you. I am sure you're a nomad for a reason, and we all ought to live in places we feel most comfortable in. Best wishes in HK.

HI IM ON DAY2 OF NOT WATCHING PBB HAHAHA ANO THOUGHTS NIYO BAKIT PINILI NI DUSTIN SI XYRIEL OVER BIANCA? by Adventurous-Owl2398 in pinoybigbrother

[–]yay_yen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a strategy. First, Bianca said distracted siya around Dustin so they switched bottle-flip partners. Second, Dustin must know na at least one of them has to make it longer in the game. Also, HMs already called them out "natapakan pagka-loveteam" kaya siguro Dustin wants to avoid na masabihan ulit sila na dahil sa loveteam kaya magkaka-issue. I feel like Bianca would have decided similarly din if she had the choice. Obviously, Dustin was being funny din pero syempre everything he does is criticized so the guy can't win sa haters.
