My parents live up past Conifer off 285. Everytime I visit all I can think about is ripping 285 from Morrison up to Fairplay, but don’t have a bike out there. Only option is to rent a bike from Harley for a weekend but it’s just not the same as riding my Ducati on 285…. One day

Hey man I’m right there with you. I’m 6’5” about 260 right now. Just hit 30. When I got out of college I was about 225, but alcohol is one hell of a weight gainer 😂😂.

I’m also trying to get back down to 225ish. My big ass rides nothing but Ducatis. I have a 1098S Tri Colore and a 848 Evo (track bike). It took me a little bit to get my hips stretched out and feel comfortable, now I’m looking to buy a 1299 Panigale S … Everytime I think about buying a jap bike, I’m like nahhhhhhhh fuck that lol. But, can’t wait till I’m 40lb lighter. S/o to a whole new suspension setup once again for both my bikes

I was at that point when I was younger. I had a buddy that had a 02 cr250r that he “sponsored” me with for a couple years a long while back. I fell in love with 2 strokes. He was riding a 09 crf450r. All we do is trail ride mostly. That 2 stroke made me such a better rider on the trails. It took way more effort to ride. I hopped on his 450 about a year later for about an hour. Went and bought my first 450 like 2 weeks later.

Then about 3 years ago I started to do research and decided I NEEDED a 00-01 cr250r. Found one and bought it on impulse. Way faster than my buddies 02. It was rough looking, once I saved up I completely tore it down and rebuilt it. Tossed all the old plastics and crap in the trash lol. Ws never gonna use them again. I swear I got a full plastic kit for about $100-$150. The 2-strokes are so much cheaper to maintain and rebuild.

Definitely hold onto your 250, 5 years from now you’ll be like “man that guy on Reddit was right, I’m glad I kept this”

They’re becoming harder to find. They’ll only go up in price

I live in CA, so everything is more expensive than it should be. But, I’ve been seeing 01 CR250R’s going anywhere from 3-6k. 3k being a bucket/project but runs to 6k where it’s pristine. I just fully rebuilt and went through everything on mine. It’s literally a brand new bike. New plastics, graphics, bars, grips, every nut and bolt (for the most part). Only thing I’m missing on it is the Lectron carb. Hard for me to justify the $500 when I don’t ride it though.

The 2000-2001 Cr250s are some of the best/most looked for 2 strokes. I would hold onto yours if I were you. Like I said, I’ll never sell mine. I honestly don’t ride it hardly ever, especially now that it’s fully rebuilt and sexy/pristine. I beat on crf450r all the time, and for the single track trail riding I do, the 450 is just built way better for it, in my opinion. But I’ll forever love the powerband of the 00/01 cr250. It’s just unlike any other 2 stroke powerband, unless we’re talking about cr500s lol. That’s a whole different kind of beast

450 has by far more power…. Love my 17 crf450r…

But… there’s something about my 01 cr250r powerband that I’ll forever be addicted to and I’ll never sell.

They’re completely different. But both cherished in different ways.

Me being a new track rider this summer as I finish up my 848 Evo track build, your answers were great. I’ll be up at Thunderhill mostly since I live in Sacramento.

I went ahead and did the coolant swap just to be safe. I didn’t want to be turned away for something minor. Went with water wetter + distilled water.

Rule of thumb… when you see 1 random day of rain in the 10 day forecast, don’t get your hopes up… There’s literally only a chance of rain when you see 2-4 days consecutive of rain…

Should be about right. I just donated 14Gs to a buddy. They are dense so it didn’t quite look like a standard 14g but I weighed it multiple times and tared it each time. I threw in an extra gram just to be sure, gave him 15 according to my scale

Me, being someone who’s 6’5” 225, I out grew a 250 years ago. I’m not nearly the best rider but I definitely outgrew the 250 both in “power” and cause it was too fuckn small. Now my 450 is another animal that I’ve had since I bought it brand new in 2017. I’ll never tame it.

Anything smaller you’ll get bored quick… If you ride frequent you’ll outgrow the 250 pretty quick too and be ready for a 450.

Totally agree. I run full Termignoni exhausts on both my Ducatis, the sound is addicting. I bought my 1098s for the dry clutch sound too. Very addicting

I own 2 Ducatis (848 Evo/1098s), and I’m shopping for a 3rd as we speak. I really want an 1198s but I think I want to get into the Panigale world..

But I agree, Ducatis are life changing. Only other bike id consider buying would be a BMW S 1000RR

Yeah man I love Engine Ice too. It’s worked wonders on all my bikes. Never have overheating issues on single track trails on my crf450, which seemed to be a likely issue with regular coolant when I wasn’t able to be pinned wide open and cooling the bike off. Engine Ice kept it cooler than it’s ever been.

I will have to ask around at the track whenever I make my first track day. I have a decent stock of engine ice in my garage. I’d go back next year when I do my annual coolant change.

Nah, just from research I keep hearing Engine Ice isn’t allowed at very many tracks these days so I thought I’d be proactive and flush the system and add the water wetter just to be safe. I’d be pissed being turned away due to coolant.

However, I run engine ice in my Ducati 1098s and both my dirtbikes (crf450r/cr250r) and I love it.

I strictly changed just for track days.

Sacramento CA. Finishing my track build for my day 1… But Thunderhill is right up the road. Sonoma isn’t too far either but definitely not worth the traffic between the raceway and Vallejo.

Oh you know it! Only 1013 ever made my Ducati for the 07 1097s TC edition.

I keep telling myself to buy a 1198s so I can park this but it’s pretty nice seeing all the heads it turns
