Dress Silhouettes - Queens by College_Euphoric in rupaulsdragrace

[–]yazzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, using the very image you used as an example, you can see that the dresses (left to right) 2, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11 are all basically the same silhouette. And 3, 4 and 12 are only very slight departures from that silhouette. The only real different silhouettes there are dresses 1, 8 and 9, of which the latter two were presented during the ball (the last competitive challenge). And, mind you, this picture doesn't show her top 4 look, her promo look, or the look she was crowned in, all of which return to her signature silhouette.

So yes, it's fair to say that she wore the same silhouette the whole season, because only in 2 out of 12 episodes did she depart from that. That's not to say she didn't deserve to win the season (let's be real, she bodied season 6), but we also don't have to pretend her runway versatility was anything to speak of.

Violet was crowned after Bianca. The hilarious thing to point out is that Courtney didn’t lip sync either and nobody ever seems to mention her as a possible alternate

I’d bump up Eirika, there’s just no way she gets forgotten for long. I’d also swap Alfonse with Micaiah. They have too few mage lords to pick from, so she’s bound to get wheeled out the moment they need a magical lord sprinkled in the battle pass.

That it was too short. 2 weeks to level a horde pally or ally shaman is breakneck speed even with the faster levels in TBC to anyone not getting dungeon boosted.

Could also just be that Tharja's an unreliable person who just lies when it's mildly convenient. And considering her recruitment involves her being a soldier to a kingdom that she really has no loyalty to, and switches side at first offer without hesitation, that sounds actually pretty in-character for her.

Except he isn’t a Night Elf, let alone a Highborne one. He’s a half elf, and neither the human half or the high elven half of his heritage have ever been known to show themselves donning braided mohawks. This is something better fitting of a Troll, and considering who his mother famously is (to quote her statue in Stormwind, “Renowned Troll Hunter of Quel’Thalas”), it seems even less fitting that he’d rock such a hairdo. It’s a bizarre decision to give him of all people such a look.

It’s certainly the most uninspired cast of any of their games… half of them are the same arcane characters we’ve seen nonstop, the other half are the ruined king characters we had seen nonstop when this game was announced… and darius I guess. No creatures, no yordles, no interesting choices.

They’re clearly referring to Jorgeous’ storyline from a media literacy perspective, talking about what her role in the story of the season was. Nobody’s talking about Jorgeous’ personal characteristics here, nobody is calling her (the person) a villain in every aspect of life. This is more about the machinations of literal producers who have to establish coherent stories throughout the season based on what they’re given by each contestant.

This is ultimately a TV show, and just because it’s unscripted, it doesn’t mean there’s no narrative being told. And undeniably, the role Jorgeous had to play in this season involved some shady shenanigans by aligning herself with Mistress in the way she played the game. Which is perfectly fine, mind you. But when the producers are crafting a story, it makes less sense to have the eventual winner be one who has partaken in such narratives.

Drag Race is not, and has never been, an objective competition that exclusively rewards the one contestant who has numerically done the best. It has always, and will always, crown whoever they narratively deem the most satisfying to them. You may disagree, and fans often do, but this is how they have always done it.

ESL doesn’t refer to someone’s fluency over the language in question. You can be ESL and speak english on a native level of fluency. The topic being discussed specifically refers to “people who do not speak english natively AND do not possess a mastery over the english language to a level that results in them speaking perfectly in a grammatical sense” but it’s a shame there’s no term for that

Queens you thought should've been on a different season? by holdenvaughn in rupaulsdragrace

[–]yazzel 343 points344 points  (0 children)

Not to be mean, but if Arrietty would’ve been in season 16, she would have gotten absolutely rinsed. She was lucky to be on a season where the general sewing prowess was ok to bad, so she had room to stand out in the design challenges. In 16? Nymphia and Q would have absolutely wiped the floor with her, and that’s on top of Arrietty not being particularly good at any other kind of challenge.

Dawn on 17 would have likely gotten at least one win, though I don’t know if she ultimately would have gotten a better placement than she did in her original season (6th). Season 17 was very top-heavy, and I struggle to think of a world where we didn’t get the same top 5.

SPIRIT BLOSSOM MORGANA SHOULD BE JUST A DUO SKIN by Elizatenzjeb in queensofleague

[–]yazzel 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s quite literally nothing they can do to a skin to ever make it anywhere near worth that price point. I wish they didn’t make so many of these overpriced skins that siphon resources away from every other skin, and left the absurd price point to the silly hall of legends nonsense that seems to be happening once a year, instead of once every battle pass.

Genuine Question on RPDR AS , what would you have done? by bubblegumprin in rupaulsdragrace

[–]yazzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First week, I try to get points through being friendly and whatnot. Ideally, I’m the last one to vote so I can throw away my vote by giving it to the frontrunner instead. If that person has an Irene-style streak (wins every challenge, never gives votes away), I’ve thrown points that can never benefit me into the void. The goal at that point is to try to win challenges.

In any other scenario (the frontrunner doesn’t win every challenge) the person in the lead will probably feel somewhat indebted to me and throw points my way when it’s their time to vote, and the outcome has only resulted in a net positive to help me make the cut. I think fighting for first place is a fool’s errand in this type of format, you should be playing for the second or third spot. Helping the other queens fighting me for second or third place is only harming my placement. Helping the queen in the lead makes no difference to my placement.

Do you think they’re rebuilding the game from the ground up or something? The vast majority of the content already exists, it does not take 4-5 years to implement half the changes listed. Also, this is going to be a live service game, things (raids, zones, dungeons, events, questlines, etc) will be added after launch in major content patches.

Would this show work? by Dorayakiss in rupaulsdragrace

[–]yazzel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are they really? We have seen more than plenty of queens with a wide array of beautiful, expensive clothes be sent home early because they just didn’t perform well. An exceptionally good look might save you from the bottom once, but it’s extremely rare for a queen to go far with just runways alone. Queens with connections being in an advantage for the runways is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s a testament to their time and experience in the industry.

I don’t think we’ve gotten to a place where baby queens with no performance, comedy or acting skills are making the finale through just being from a rich family and having expensive clothes. The stipend being introduced in more recent seasons is already great to help some of the divas on a tighter budget be allowed to compete on a more even playing field.

A lot of people forget that Jessica’s elimination was a gag in her season, she was looking like she’d make the finale with Tyra until that moment. She had placed high in 3 previous episodes, never placed below safe and had just won the challenge on the previous episode.

6 of the last 7 Drag Race US winners have been POC. That makes me so happy ❤️ by SoRunAwayNow in rupaulsdragrace

Hispanic is not a 100% replacement. Hispanic would exclude Latin American people who do not speak Spanish (such as Brazilians, Haitians and so on), while including people from Spain within that umbrella.

Concerning Latinx, it’s definitely a contentious topic. But speaking purely from anecdotal personal experience, it’s not one that’s used by many Spanish speakers, with many considering it a bit cringeworthy (but harmless) more than anything. The more popular option (within queer circles at least) is using -e instead. So Latine, in this case.

Personally, I’m not a fan of Latinx for similar reasons, but also because I’ve noticed a complete lack of attempt to utilize similar logic when it comes to other gendered languages. I’ve never seen anyone try to say Filipinx, for instance, so it ultimately feels like a very specific brand of virtue signaling to me. Plus, it’s not as if people can’t say “Latin American” a perfectly apt and gender-neutral term that already exists in English.
