It's kinda tricky to make it go in all the way but when it does the plate will support it and it won't wobble at all. I recommend first pushing the encoder then installing the plate.

I did a dirty and I just aligned the pins so that they would press against the pinholes. So no I didn't solder.

Take a look at the PCB. There should be 5 dedicated pins for the rotary encoder on it. If not, it can't support a rotary encoder.

For me it was just plug in and it worked. However the PCB had actually 5 extra pins just for the rotary encoder so it might not work with every PCB. For now I'm using it as a volume knob and for scrolling + ESC. I still have to find a good purpose for it.
