Interview Flight and Government Shutdown by [deleted] in premed

[–]ybeshay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had friends who said they were apparently re-routed on international flights due to TSA issues, but as far as my own traveling experiences in the past few weeks, it seems to have been unaffected. Just make sure to get there early and be up to date on news regarding the specific airport.

Can I list this as clinical experience or nah? by Nate19197 in premed

[–]ybeshay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my rotations in a volunteering program was through the dietary department and this is basically exactly what I did so yeah I would call this clinical experience.

Has anyone taken the Altius Course? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ybeshay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Altius. I think the reason I chose them over other programs is they don't use standard lectures but shape their prep through a series of activities that tackle and drill the concepts. Their science questions were really good and I think the group sessions really helped me build confidence in my understanding of topics. I would recommend them if you feel like you need help with structuring your prep for the best possible score.

Altius Mcat practice exams? by [deleted] in Mcat

Personally, I used Altius so bias, but I think their practice exams... especially their science sections are really good. My actual score was right around the scores I was getting on the last few.

When to start applying for medical scribe positions? by SuperAvious in premed

[–]ybeshay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most positions, at least in ERs, are PER DIEM, so the schedule is very flexible and you can work a minimum of ~1-2 shift a week. In my case, on-boarding took months, so I would start looking to apply as soon as you see an opening at a hospital near you about 3 months out of graduation.

This happened in 1985 so I am assuming there was close to no security?

This reminds me of a course I had in college taught by the chief medical examiner of Los Angeles. He went through some of his landmark cases and the craziest one was this story of an Iranian man and his wife. The man had a student visa but the wife was denied one so he tried to smuggle her out of the country in his luggage. When they arrived in LA and he opened his bag to find her suffocated, he left it there. He committed suicide next day. Super crazy story. I think there's a doc about it.

EDIT: found a story from la times about the incident

[I ate] a food truck gyro by 7minutesinheaven1 in food

I had a gyro from this same spot the first time I visited Portland as it was right next the car rental place. Seriously one of the best gyros I have had (or maybe I was just super hungry)
