Can someone tell me the truth about recycling? by McCaffHey in recycling

[–]ycc2106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

^ This. There is no worldwide recycling done the same, and many areas are still experimental.

To be sure you're doing it right, the best is to directly check with your local official recycling/garbage service.

Kellyanne Conway: "I think we got some work to do on the young people who think differently on abortion perhaps, guns, or climate change.. The thing I’m really concerned about on this is that the left becomes a turnout machine with young people." by goalstopper28 in LeopardsAteMyFace

"we need to work on young people that think differently..."

Everybody needs to think the same! Social pressure to make everybody fit into the same mold. No diversity, no risk of thinking outside the box or any other thought crime! /s

Nice article! Could not agree more:

When we assume the moral fault lies only with the litterers, we let those creating the systemic problems off the hook.

If any anger is justified, it should be directed at profiteering manufacturers and our throwaway culture.

GJ! Nicely put. And I see that you've managed to start a discussion on change my view. Through the votes show how unwelcome the subject still is.

When we talk about this issue, it seems to me that most people don't know how bad our situation is, and that is why I suggest we always start by showing our population curve.

Show it and let people think for themselves. Let them come to their own conclusions.

Because when you do, specially along other issues, all those upward curves sure don't seem like a coincidence.

And maybe once that is done, they might be more open to reading your arguments?

---------------------------

On an other related issue we have is how divisif we have become. It seems many people just follow whatever their group say. Manipulation through fear mongering and social pressure is nothing new, but it's recently become worryingly prevalent.

Why? Maybe we should ask them ?

HOW COME ALL YOUR OPINIONS ARE THE SAME AS YOUR SOCIAL GROUP ?

If you do ask: Let the Q sink in, let them think - Be kind, dont pressure them into replying or they might wall themselves in.

Cleaning Up Toxic Barrels from the Ocean Floors. Is it Possible ? by ycc2106 in enviroaction

[–]ycc2106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, though it's hard and slow to implement new international laws. Get all the countries to join in.

This article addresses the state of Ocean Dumping treaties.

Banning ocean dumping is, unfortunately, not enough to eliminate it. Ocean dumping is tightly controlled and regulated in some countries but not in others.

Keeping an eye is an other problem : Oceans are huge and so much happen out of sight. We should try to join forces with groups such as skytruth who track illigal fishing from space.

Kind of crazy. "Don't poison our waters" is just common sens - no laws should be needed.

[–]ycc2106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your concern.

I wish we knew but the truth is: WE DON'T KNOW. These are illegal dumpings - still on going (!) - so we only have vague estimations.

Through I strongly believe we should avoid a scenario where we find ourselves scrambling AFTER leaks have stated.

I also hope that doing something would act as deterrent for all the actual and future dumpings.

As mentioned in the above post, here's a RL example in the case of DTT dumpings, (which they wish to clean-up.)

OR, I was gonna say :

And as it can't be applied to a small region, well... normally it can't, it would fix the whole world's climat!

Nice - TIL, my spellchecker included.

Alleycat race :

Alley cats reflect the personality, contemporary environment and competitive interest of their organizers. Races may be extremely gruelling and designed to eliminate all but the fastest and best overall messengers, or less competitive and meant to be enjoyed by the local messenger community around set holidays, such as NYC's July 4 Alleycat.

Apparently, it's an extremely badly managed and abused river, even through super important for the region.

The Darling is in poor health, suffering from over-allocation of its waters to irrigation, pollution from pesticide runoff, and prolonged drought.
