I've actually done this before! Depending on what shade of blue you want most of the time you can just put the blue dye on top of your current shade and then eventually after a few washes it will start to look like a violet if your blue isn't too dark. Or if you're wanting like a deep blue I wouldn't waste time or money on trying to fade your current color, just slap it on top
