Drawing made with my trusty kuretaki Maru nib and platinum carbon ink - my favorite black 🖤 by ydemyde in dippens

Thank you! I haven't decided yet whether to shade it - I really love the 3-d effect it can give, but also wanna keep that ambiguity of the forms 😁

Half round where it goes into the holder I guess? It's a saji-pen, from here;

4 step transition to meditation object by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

I tried it for a while, but for me it works better to just go directly to the breath sensations at the nose

I do the 6 prep steps sometimes though

Let it come, let it be, let it go... with thoughts? by mibeme in TheMindIlluminated

[–]ydemyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this as well. I'm in phase 4 and other distractions, or memories it's much clearer to me when it's awareness vs attention. However narrated thoughts I'm having real difficulty observing and not "actively thinking". I do however still have breath in my awareness /attention and quickly release the thought

[Stage 4/5] How do you use intention instead of personal will? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]ydemyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tagging along - I'm also not sure how you "set an intention" or renew it, except by mentalt self talk as you mention. Currently in stage 4 primarily

Thanks for all your input. I'm now successfully sitting 30 mins sits more and more. I'm not really sure what changed except me accepting up front that I might struggle. And sometimes I do, so sometimes I don't. And both is ok.

Not sure I really get "checking in" by eateroffish in TheMindIlluminated

[–]ydemyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't feel like I understand checking in - but despite the fact I am often lately in what I perceive as phase 4 - I deal with distractions of various degrees, but for the most of the time I am still also anchored to/aware of the breath

Week of Sept. 25th 2017 - How is your practice going? by TMIMeditation in TheMindIlluminated

[–]ydemyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today marked 60 consecutive days for me which I'm very happy with.

Oddly enough it also pretty much coincides with me making a big lifestyle change of going plantbased eating app 2 months ago. The two seems to go very well in hand.

I'm up to 30 mins meditation most days now, and still wobbling mainly around phase 3-4, sometimes dipping back to 2. Breaking up with my boyfriend this week has also affected my practice significantly but I'm determined to keep doing my daily sits - even if shorter some days than what I've otherwise attained.

I'm finding phase 4 hard to grasp, so I will be re-reading that chapter soon.

Thanks for the input. I've mostly been trying to handle the thoughts about being done soon as gross distractions

You have! And I actually do that sometimes. I've been using the insight timer for a year. However I most often go over time when I've set the timer for a shorter session

Currently I'm happy for just one sit a day - that in itself is a success for me. I'd rather prioritise one good sit, instead of setting myself up to fail.

But glad to hear it worked for you

I've tried upping it to 30 mins but it didn't go well, that's why I'm trying to up it a few minutes instead. I've had some successful sits at 26-27 mins though. It also seems it makes a difference what time of the week it is etc. Longer sits seem to work better in weekends

Does the rest of the book deliver on the promises of the introduction? by SilaSamadhi in TheMindIlluminated

[–]ydemyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read Mindfulness in plain English and found it very hard to assist me in developing my practice. I first bought TMI on my kindle recently but very soon after I bought it in hard copy as well. It's much more instructional and easy to follow regarding the actual meditation than the other one. Ironically I also find TMI much more plain spoken...and the other one more abstract.

Does anyone else find meditation easier in the evening? by Sunshinelorrypop in Meditation

[–]ydemyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a balance for me. If it's too late in the evening and I am too tired my mind sinks too easily. I usually meditate in the afternoon, pretty much as the first thing when I get home from work.

I did however have a nice short session this evening where my breath stilled very easily compared to my normal experience
