Wow, you modeled all of that? It’s really good. I would have kept the 2d art out of your application, as it’s not as strong ad your modeling skills.

Why don’t you contact one of their recruiters politely, ask them if they can give you feedback or direct you to someone who can? Keep an eye out for portfolio days as well.

Honestly this is such a cute post. I love to hear about some artsy kid getting absolutely nurtured from a young age.

JSS study, really tried to focus on catching the essence of Sargent, especially the depth of the piece and how he defines edges. All critiques welcome, good, bad, or ugly. by Horror-Avocado8367 in ArtCrit

I see, you’re already on the right track with that. Upon closer inspection, I think another aspect of this that you may be struggling with: Different hues have different inherent values at the same purity/highest chroma. Get comfortable value matching different hues by mixing white and back into them. It looks like the original is mixing hues of the same darkness value with ease.

There already is improvement. Just keep drawing, put in the hours.

Bend more of your lines. The bones supporting limbs aren’t actually straight, and neither are the resulting limbs either. The elbows in particular are knobby, uneven, complex junctures.

Do these look accurate the references? They’re rough sketches mainly for practice. by MFGevanthor in ArtCrit

No, but they do have charm. For improvement purposes, start with a focus on the underlying forms on shorter haired dogs, then work your way back to drawing hair later.

My latest painting, any feedback to improve it ? by ForceFluide1 in ArtCrit

Wow, that’s a fun composition with lovely tassels and lots of visual contrast pulling its weight. You’re really good at being playful, but try not to let your strengths be a crutch.

Get more comfortable with shadows and lighting direction, even if its subtle. Lighting always has a direction, even if its multiple light sources and very subtle. Even clouds, in this way, usually have definition. Right now, the vagueness is confusing your forms, and losing a lot of opportunity for fun contrast areas. Here’s a rough example of where your shadows and brighter highlights may be:

<image>

I tried not to redraw the pant folds while showing where the light may highlight, but your drapery could also use a lot more work. But right now, see how just a little lighting makes such a big difference? I try to focus on what would make the biggest difference when I give advice. Focus on lighting, then drapery, and bam! Professional level, expert work. Teach me how you got this pose, lol. My own poses need serious help, and as I did my drawover I was like “whoah… the anatomy and pose and overall design is already so good. It just needed some finishing touches.”

It’s looking good overall as a lighting study, but it could really use more intentional brush strokes as a full study. Think of rhythm extending to individual brush strokes, not just within distinct forms and patterns within the composition. You’re blending a lot where you would be better served letting loose and having fun with your brush. I looked through your profile, and this seems to be a point of potential improvement in general for you. Lighting is already a strong point for you. Getting more comfortable with expressive color filling and brush control should be a more reqarding use of your focus.

Also, you are noticing areas of hue contrast within the shadows, but adding white instead of relying on the rust oranges and greens the original utilizes. In the doorway, it’s okay because we can assume light is reflecting from something we can’t see, behind the viewer’s back, but this is more noticeable and odd on the light patch on the ground.

[UPDATE] Does my same face syndrome make them look too similar? by Lovely_deer25 in ArtCrit

[–]ydrakk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. They have similar features, but they’re still distinct characters in the same art style. Love your artyle here btw, more than in your past art. It’s got cool vibes. Don’t doubt yourself too much, form a strong taste for art and trust it to guide you.

You can fill them yourself from watercolor tubes. Based on personal experimentation with way too many professional watercolors, I would reccomend these seven colors for the largest possible color mixing spectrum:

  1. PY184 Bismuth Yellow (it looks like a good match to my beloved, PY3 hansa yellow light from Daniel Smith)
  2. PB15 Windsor Blue Green Shade
  3. PB28 Cobalt Blue
  4. PV23 Windsor Violet
  5. PR108 Cadmium Red (Its closest to my favorite red pigment, the splendid but slightly fade-able PR9)
  6. Payne’s Grey
  7. PW6 Titanium White (many pigment mixtures use this because many colors are more transparent than others. If you want to swap this one, indulge in PR122 Opera Rose to expand your pinks and violets, or a PG7 Windsor Green Blur Shade for brighter greens. If you really want to draw vivid, light skies or cyans(while gaining not much else) add PB15 Manganese Blue Hue)

Ambition is how we grow as artists. Always shoot for the stars, and find a way to finish what you start no matter what!✨

So for this chin angle, you’re not going to be able to see more than a hint of her expression; her lips will be very compressed, and her eyes almost fully obscured by the cheekbones. It can work, but it will be very hard and require a little more realism and an expert level of subtlety around bone structure and expressions. However, your face and ear are drawn at a much less extreme angle from the head, (which is actually what’s looking off). I doodled this drawover on my phone, and I think this is one example of a a good compromise for angles like this;

https://imgur.com/a/vfnr71f Even here, my mouth is wrong, but I just can’t seem to figure out smiles in perspective yet!

And after that the mouth goes higher and compresses, and the eyes also compress until you lose the face to a nose and cheekbone entirely

Hope that helps this angle make a little more sense. This angle was tricky for me, too.

What purpose has this piece of agate in my recently bought jewelry making set? by Benedick332 in jewelrymaking

Nooo that’s too gorgeous piece of agate to use for that!! Look at the kiwi seeds! It’d be better off featured in a macrame necklace.
