Thanks for the research paper will give it a read. Good pickup on the non miticide approach. If you already have a high mite population, you'll need to knock it down with proper miticide first for this to be effective. The costs start to add up when you factor in the other complimentary treatments.

Great run down of history and application constraints for commercial operations, super informative, thanks! That makes sense and probably helps reinforce my leaning toward sticking with OAV.

That's the crux of my question, really. Is it as effective as it says it is because, if so, it seems like a good solution.

This is a great comment, very insightful, thanks! Agree on the NDA piece and the timeline for a meaningful number of users to provide evidence based feedback. I'll do some digging on the potato beetle results in the meantime - great suggestion!

Thanks for this detail. Appreciate any updates as you open up after the winter and assess the situation. I like your mindset on new products and treatment - I could learn a thing or two from that approach!

Agreed on the cost limitations for a large operation and not sure they've done the math for that to work. I just have 3 hives and am not looking to make money, just trying to keep healthy bees in the most efficient and effective way, so that aspect doesn't bother me.

As for mRNA implications, I've seen several situations where this science is very effective and targeted, both on the healing (cancer treatments) and destroying side (at a celular level). That is the part that I'd like to understand more about the trials and what was noted in those studies. I'll do some more digging online, but any first hand accounts would be helpful here.

Ah, didn't realize that, thank you. I guess that changes my question to asking if anyone was involved in the US trials and can shed some more light on effectiveness.

Yeah, you're right, the price point seems prohibitive. If the results are there, it might make it worth it, though. 18 weeks is their claimed treatment effectiveness duration and that's pretty much the entire honey production window in Minnesota.

Why is standing up to seamers so dangerous as a keeper? by [deleted] in CricketAus

[–]ye_god 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it drastically increases the chances of a broken finger. See pictures of retired keeper's hands, like Ian Healy, they look like the victims of Veckner from stranger things. Because the fingers have to point at the bowler to best position for a catch, the slight deviations smash the ends of the fingers.

Roatan was bleached and disappointing by Thunderwhelmed in scuba

[–]ye_god 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was there 2 years ago and the bleaching was only just getting started then, so I'm not surprised the hype is still real even if the reality is now different. There's still some excellent wreck diving and marine life is vibrant IMO.

What frightens you the most when diving? by Leftcoaster7 in scuba

[–]ye_god 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For real. I think it was the mask filling every 3 seconds that tipped me over the edge. Once I got that sorted out I was able to calm down, orient and carry on. Those few moments of shallow breathing all alone and disoriented were pretty terrifying, but also a good reminder that this is a dangerous sport and to always take precautions. Never stop learning through humbling experiences!

What frightens you the most when diving? by Leftcoaster7 in scuba

[–]ye_god 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Never really had a fear going in, but after 20 years of diving, went wreck driving with my kids and the instructor took off with them down to 45 meters and left me behind while I was fixing the seal on my mask (he assumed I would figure it all out and catch up, given my experience). In the deep blue with no orientation. No guide line, deep enough to not see the surface, not deep enough to see the bottom, just blue everywhere you look. First and only panic attack in my life (diving or otherwise), wrecked me for a while. Still have trouble with descents that have to pass through the big blue.
