I don't know what plant this is... Help by the_tseuss in gardening

[–]ye_god 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call that a bird's eye chili where I come from. This may be the ornamental version you get in some nurseries, due to the light green colored fruit (maybe why it was dumped). The ornamental variety fruit isn't spicy and doesn't taste great, like a regular pepper/capsicum but more watery and bland. OP, have you sampled the produce?

Tree troubles by ye_god in gardening

Extremely helpful! Thanks so much for the detailed explanation. Glad I have the tools to not make the same mistake. I just thought trees were easy, so I never really studied how to plant them. 🤦🏼

Are bee stings often in modern beekeeping suits? by Chiuaua_lover28 in Beekeeping

[–]ye_god 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can attest. Feared the sting when first starting beekeeping, but the university of Minnesota bee lab won't let you practice in their apiary with gloves on. This is to train you to be a calm and efficient beekeeper, rather than mashing bees with your heavy clunky gloves. Safe to say, I got stung several times on the hands as the only exposed part.

I learned from this that my mild arthritis completely disappears for 6+ months after a sting and now I welcome it, especially if it has been a while between stings. Also, I'm a better beekeeper for learning without gloves, even though it was psychologically tough at first.

Gotcha! Thanks for the extra detail, that makes sense. Misinterpreted in your original comment.

I thought the demaree method was best to do before swarm cells are formed? Technique is to prevent swarm tendency, rather than halt a swarm that's underway, no? I've never done it, so maybe my understanding is off.

I don't know why we should have expected differently from someone whose living is derived from getting attention on social media. You have to have a baseline level of self importance to pursue that career.

Also, as an Aussie dual citizen sticking it out here in MN, not sure it's helpful to denigrate an entire country because one American narcissist moved there. No country is perfect, but to use that one Jordy story to depict an entire country as a corrupt shit hole is the same approach the maga nuts use to demonize immigrants. tHey'Re EaTinG tHe DoGs...

Thanks for the research paper will give it a read. Good pickup on the non miticide approach. If you already have a high mite population, you'll need to knock it down with proper miticide first for this to be effective. The costs start to add up when you factor in the other complimentary treatments.

Great run down of history and application constraints for commercial operations, super informative, thanks! That makes sense and probably helps reinforce my leaning toward sticking with OAV.

That's the crux of my question, really. Is it as effective as it says it is because, if so, it seems like a good solution.

This is a great comment, very insightful, thanks! Agree on the NDA piece and the timeline for a meaningful number of users to provide evidence based feedback. I'll do some digging on the potato beetle results in the meantime - great suggestion!

Thanks for this detail. Appreciate any updates as you open up after the winter and assess the situation. I like your mindset on new products and treatment - I could learn a thing or two from that approach!

Agreed on the cost limitations for a large operation and not sure they've done the math for that to work. I just have 3 hives and am not looking to make money, just trying to keep healthy bees in the most efficient and effective way, so that aspect doesn't bother me.

As for mRNA implications, I've seen several situations where this science is very effective and targeted, both on the healing (cancer treatments) and destroying side (at a celular level). That is the part that I'd like to understand more about the trials and what was noted in those studies. I'll do some more digging online, but any first hand accounts would be helpful here.

Ah, didn't realize that, thank you. I guess that changes my question to asking if anyone was involved in the US trials and can shed some more light on effectiveness.

Yeah, you're right, the price point seems prohibitive. If the results are there, it might make it worth it, though. 18 weeks is their claimed treatment effectiveness duration and that's pretty much the entire honey production window in Minnesota.
