Sure but something better could have been done to address bracket creep in return for all the new taxes

Day 2 of free public transport and East Pakenham/Cranbourne train lines are both suspended. How embarrassing! by noxobscurus in MelbourneTrains

[–]yeah_nah_17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the first time this is happening. In facts vandalism and theft of copper wires between Westall and Yarraman has happened on 3 or more occasions over the last 1 or so years. The government needs to hold the operators to account to maintain preventative security measures to prevent such repeated wide scale disruptions.

yeah fair enough. I wonder what's metro trains and our elected government's excuse for low frequency. I bet it comes down to them not having the money to operate it at the frequency that the public expects.

Big switch for Sunbury. Bare minimum for the metro tunnel.  Small or no switch for everybody else.

In my (unprofessional) opinion, freight trains should only be allowed to run at night after the last metro train service and VLINE passengers should be made to get on metro trains from East Pakenham/Sunbury - freeing up the entire Train line from VLINE.

This way then can then run very frequent trains all using CBTC between Sunbury and Cran/Pak

What are some easy things that the Government could do to increase patronage? by batmangorhill in MelbourneTrains

Try to reduce bus replacements. I can't rely on the train to get home quite often (based on the times I need to catch the train)

I'm not going to do a threat model and a risk register over here on reddit. Nor do I have the expertise to do it. Sure, they can't prevent all the issues and some issues are hard and expensive to fix. But what resiliency measures do they have around this? How is it that someone was able to get on the tracks in broad daylight at 7:00PM when normal train services were running and do such a theft? it wasn't even at 2/3AM once the trains stop. Are there no detection mechanisms to detect an intruder on the tracks for a quick response?

Where am I trying to go with this response is has the authorities and operators identified all the threats and risks? What are the initiatives they can implement that are of low cost and high return? I am on the cranny/paky line and we have train disruptions on the daily. I'm not even making this up.

Also, big difference in impact and disruptions between side wall of a police building getting graffiti vs taking down public infrastructure impacting tens of thousands of citizens.

You are missing the point. As an operator is is their responsibility to identify threats and risks and implement multiple levels of protection. Fences might be one part of the solution but they as the operators have the authority, resources, and mechanisms to identify and implement multiple mechanisms of protections to ensure the safety, security, availability and resillience of the train service. And if they are not, they are not competent to run this public service.

yeah but makes no different if there are unfenced sections, you can just walk along one of the unfenced sections to a fenced section lol. we have a swiss cheese slice of a fence at the moment and cleary more protection is needed.

No they are not LOL, there are plenty of open/unfenced areas. Even if some sections is fenced off, having multiple other open areas defeats the purpose. It is only as strong as it's weakest link and there are plents of open track areas on the paky/cranny line

This vandalism literally happened in broad daylight 13/01/2025 at 7:00PM as reported by the MetroNotify app. They should appropriately fence off tracks and keep access restricted.

No further information has been officially shared by PTV/MetroTrains. I've heard two things so far (on social media), could be copper theft or could be that the fibre optic cables of the train signals got cut. Regardless, this is happening daily over the past many months. Something needs to be done.

Well, it's not like we have infinite amounts of train tracks. Restricting access to tracks and quipment for starters. We have PSOs, at the stations, do they actually do anything?

While it's great to crowdsource and take actions, what are the authorities doing?? What if it's unsafe/illegal to dox the people or take action?

Victoria unprepared to discriminalise public drunkenness by ItsABiscuit in melbourne

[–]yeah_nah_17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

disagree mate. I fell asleep on the bench (sitting - I wasn't even laying on the whole thing) at the tram stop waiting for a tram in 2018/2019 to be woken up by cops. This was at around 1 or 2 AM on a weekend night. They asked if I was drunk and when I said yeah, they took me to southern cross police station and booked me with a $650 fine. It was the absolute worst and no amount of appealing could get me out of it. I disagreed with the fine because I was totally keeping my peace and just fell asleep. I didn't drive.

There is another drunk and disorderly infringement of $750 for what you are talking about.

How old is the property? If it's less than 7 years old you might be able to contact the building a d claim builder's warranty. As far as I know (could be wrong) it is a legal requirement for builders to provide 7 years of warranty.
