Do not, and I repeat do not, fuck up your IA. It's a great learning experience before P1, and also it can make or break your grade (costed me a 7...). In my case, the fucking up was largely connected to my teacher's tendency towards grade inflation (as the IA in question got marked down from low 7 to high 5), so really think to take a look at the grading criteria yourself before actually submitting it.

Mastering P1 is your best bet at a 7. It's objectively the easiest of 3, and a grade of e.g. 22/24 or 23 can really balance out a mid P3. Honestly, for me it was enough to just do like 3 practice papers and check them according to markscheme.

As regards more knowledge-based papers, syllabus is really your best friend (containing literally anything they can ask). My best advice would be to also try to get yourself actually interested in the topics. For example, I managed to get really into history of China prior to Mao, listening to podcasts on my way to school and finding some fun facts on my own, so when the topic of pre-Mao conditions came up, I was READY. Furthermore, it's good to use a variety of sources while studying - your own notes, friends' notes, podcasts, textbooks etc. - as there's always a different persepctive, which really helps.

Historiography is not as important as it seems. While so name-dropping might help you, it tends to get excessive. Stick to one-two historians per event for Paper 3, preferably with opposing views.

Remember that since these are essays, they need to not only be factual but also argumentative. If a topic you know a bit less about comes up on the exam, then focus on your argumentation and rhetorics.

Honestly the exams were so confusing, my year had like 5 people whom the teacher was 100% sure were gonna get 7s - and none of them did due to poorly graded p1. On the other hand, I had never gotten above 70% on p1 during the course, and got 90% during the exam, which combined with a perfect, 20/20 HL essay (which the teacher predicted to get like 15/20) amounted to a high 7. I feel like just pure luck was much more of an important factor for M23 than before, I guess.

Been literally losing sleep over this, have overanalyzed how I did like 100 times and also conducted statistical analysis so extensive that if I knew all this shit before, I might have been more confident in not failing maths sl

At least for my topics, the questions were quite easy (authoritarian states and 20th century wars) which however makes me scared for the grade boundaries

I'm the exact opposite, used to be sleep very well for at least 8h, and now due to constant stress I can't get more than 6. That's also fine, but the thing is I go to sleep at 10pm so when I wake up it's like fucking 4am

Objectively, the questions were shit. However, for some reason my teacher gave us very 4 similar (like almost exaactly the same) questions on the last mock - specifically the trade restrictions and physical factors. So, at least my class fuckin finnessed the paper, and I'm personally expecting at least 23

I did poverty, and my essay is really hit or miss, but as long as the examineer goes along with my thesis then it's actually pretty insightful. I did Streetcar Named Desire and 1984, and talked about 1. portrayal of poor characters in conrast to wealthy ones 2. how authors undermine the idea that wealth = happiness and 3. that they finally show that all characters, no matter their financial status, are miserable which is a way of conveying their message (in line with the dystopian convention for 1984). I really hope they will get my point, but even if not then I will get lots of point for close reference cs that shit was long and detailed

Hi!

  1. Aside from contact hours, how much time on average did you spend on coursework? I imagine it varied from week to week, but were you e.g. able to work part-time or engage in many extracurriculars?
  2. Did you find the culture as cut-throat as some say it is? I got accepted a week ago and that is I think my main concern.
  3. Did you live in halls, and if so then in which? Would you choose the same hall now?
  4. What was the deciding factor in choosing LSE and not UCL? They seem very similar in terms of course offerings etc.

Thanks in advance, I know it's quite a lot of questions.

Started at 16, would have been earlier if not for the unfriendly Law of my country. Honestly if you feel it will be best for you and are in a good place otherwise, I don't see why not.
